Dear Herr Bush,
Tonight you stood up in front of the nation and spoke about freedom. To you freedom means the freedom to send more young men and women to die in an unwinnable war, it means the freedom to drop cluster bombs on villages filled with innocent children, it means the freedom to tap phones without a warrant, the freedom to hold people indefinitely without charges, the freedom to sell our public resources off to Halliburton, the freedom to destroy our environment, the freedom to clamp down on dissent, the freedom to ignore Congress by issuing signing statements, and the freedom to steal elections.
If this is what freedom is then I would hate to know what it is like to live in the world without freedom that you warn constantly warn us of.
We have seen the freedom you have given Iraq Herr Bush, we have seen the way in which people are now free to blow each other up because of your mission to “bring peace” to the region. We have seen the way that the military which you are “commander-in-chief”of has ordered torture, we have seen them kill unprecedented numbers of journalists, and we have seen them attack civilian neighborhoods.
But this “freedom” you have brought to Iraq is not enough for you Herr Bush tonight in your speech you strongly hinted that Iran and Syria were next on your list. You just can’t get enough death can you? How many more people do you plan on killing Bush? How many more families are you going to tear apart, how many people are you going to send to have their legs blown off, how many more people are you going to expose to depleted uranium, how many more people are going to lose any chance they ever had for a future because you have destroyed their lives through your illegal war of aggression?
When did Iraq attack us? When did Iran attack us? When did Syria attack us? When did any of those countries even threaten to attack us? Yet we are supposed to be scared of these people who just happen to sit on top of some prime oil reserves because maybe, just maybe they will decide to attack us if we stop playing the aggressor. Telling us that we are less likely to be attacked if we attack others first is like telling a person that if they walk down the street and start randomly punching people in the face they are less likely to get punched themselves. If that is the kind of advice you would give a person then you certainly do not belong in any leadership position.
It is time sir, it is time for you to step down from office and turn yourself into the Hague so your war crimes trial can finally get under way. If you refuse to do so, well then we must do we everything in our power to make sure you are removed through impeachment and then arrested to stand trial.
Your time is up.
Signed,
An American who wants freedom to be more than an empty word
