NEW YORK (AP) -- Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd announced Thursday he will run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, saying problems at home and abroad meant it was time for him to "get out of the bleachers and onto the arena floor."

Dodd, a 26-year Senate veteran, told the "Imus in the Morning" radio show he will file paperwork to establish a campaign committee later in the day.

"I know how to do this. I know what has to be done. I'm going to get out and make my case," Dodd said. He described himself as a dark horse in a Democratic field dominated by Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama -- neither of whom have yet entered the race.

The 62-year-old senator declared his candidacy Thursday, joining an already crowded field of Democratic presidential hopefuls including John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich and Tom Vilsack.

Dodd planned to travel late Thursday to Iowa, home to the first nominating caucus in January 2008. On Sunday, Dodd intended to visit South Carolina, an early primary state, according to Lachlan MacIntosh, the state party's executive director.

had to go have some tests done and was getting ready and turned on the TV BEFORE C-Span's Washington Journal which I watch all the time!

I was completely "irritated" and wanted to slap the guy when he went on and on about how BADLY Dodd treated Joe Lieberman! What a complete JERK! Guess he's a big Joe fan, and I thought it was in SUCH BAD TASTE to keep hounding Dodd about it!

I like Dodd, but not enough to support him for President.

in passing the "Help America Vote for Bush Act" of 2002, which converted our election system to electronic vote "counting" run on TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by Bushite corporations, with virtually no audit/recount controls. He is a snake in the grass. He no doubt expects Bush's buds at Diebold and ES&S to "elect" him president as his reward for the $3.9 billion of our money poured into their pockets, some of which got turned right around and donated in large chunks to the Bush/Cheney campaign. DIEBOLD: Until recently, headed by Wally O'Dell, a Bush-Cheney campaign chair and major fundraiser (a Bush "Pioneer," right up there with Ken Lay), who promised in writing to "deliver Ohio's electoral votes to Bush-Cheney in 2004"; and

ES&S: A spinoff of Diebold (similar computer architecture), initially funded by rightwing billionaire Howard Ahmanson, who also gave one million dollars to the extremist 'christian' Chalcedon Foundation (which touts the death penalty for homosexuals, among other things). Diebold and ES&S have an incestuous relationship; they are run by two brothers, Bob and Tod Urosevich.

These are the people who "counted" 80% of the nation's votes in 2004, under a veil of corporate secrecy--thanks to Christopher Dodd.
