McCain to be Bush's VP?

I have not seen this in the news anywhere, but I think it is a huge possibility. Rove & Co. know that they have rubbed many moderate Republicans the wrong way. Certainly putting McCain on the ticket would bring in at least some of those disgruntled moderates. "Okay, at least the ticket isn't TOO evil". If Kerry ends up being the nominee we are going to have an amazing VP pick that isn't just for regional or ethnic purposes.

I think McCain would have a better shot running by himself against our Democratic president in 2008 -- not that he'd win, mind.

he's certainly fallen into line ever since the Invade Iraq Party. He looked old and beaten campaigning for the madman in NH, too. I think he's been put in his place somewhat.

Still, I think it's a bit of a longshot that he'd agree to be VP -- but I guess you never know. He's lost any shot at hetting in the White House otherwise...

2. McCain would never do it

You should have seen him on the Daily Show before the NH primary. He was pretty harsh on Bush's policies and could barely bring himself to say that he was actually going to NH to support Bush there. There is no way he would associate with that crowd, though I'd certainly rather see him pulling the strings than Cheney.

two nuts is to strong. I think if push came to shove, KKKarl would go before The Dick. For some reason I don't see The Dick answering to KKKarl, more like the other way around probably.

All signs in the Valerie Plame scandal are pointing to Cheney's office. A desperate Bush might try to use Cheney as a fall guy. Whether McCain would climb aboard a sinking ship with a guy he doesn't particularly care for, I don't know. McCain is a calculating as any politician.

But fortunately, he's pro-choice and pro-gay rights, so he won't pass the Republican sniff test at the national level.

Even if they decided to overlook it, they'd be forced to tap-dance away the contradictions.

As for Ridge, I think most Americans are underwhelmed by his Department, so he's not as strong as he once was.

After all, Sen. McCain has been his most vociferous Repub critic in Congress--why pick your biggest adversary within your own party, especially given Dub's vindictiveness?

7. I think your assessment is incorrect.

It's not the moderate republicans that the bushies have rubbed the wrong way, it's the conservative and ultra-conservative republicans that bush has rubbed the wrong way. Moderates are quite happy with him. Bush is considered by most hard core conservatives to be far too liberal. The only thing they agree with him on is the WOT.

I don't think we'll see McCain on the ticket.

It appears now more than ever that Cheney may be implicated in any number of scandals, to the point of possible indictment (Halliburton, CIA leak, lying about Iraq). He is dead weight, and even conservatives are starting to admit as much. Up until now, I've thought if he were forced off the ticket because of his problems, it would just look really BAD for Bush.

But then I remembered his ticker.

If he's going to be replaced, I'd guess that sooner rather than later (before any of the S*** hits the fan on these investigations) he has another "heart attack". Of course, he will wisely decide not to run in 2004, and he'll be replaced on the ticket by McCain, Guliani, or someone who can cast a more human (and scandal-free) face on the White House.

Even if the investigations continue, people will say "Whattya want? He's stepping down! Plus, the guy's at death's door! Give him a break!"

For starters, there's his own ego. The man has presidential aspirations of his own and I don't think he wants board what looks to be a sinking ship.

Secondly, I don't think he's forgiven Bushco for their smear against him in 2000.
