Impeachment just isn't possible with the time remaining even if the GOP would cooperate, which ,at the end of the day, they won't.I think it would be better to attempt removing him as incompetent mentally. And as for Cheney, even he doesn't support this troop surge it is rumored. And impeachment is only the first step.It doesn't remove the Chimp from office, but enacting the competency clause would!

1. It would be nice if it ended the first week of November 2008
Waving all the GOP dirty laundry around leading up to the election would be the perfect campaign event.

2. No time at all.
He would resign just like Nixon. Do you really think he would stand trial knowing what would be exposed? Knowing that it would mean prison time?

8. I don't think he cares. I believe he is either brainwashed or a willing
accomplice to a test by the Neocons. He has been a sacrificial lamb (and he is too stupid to care). I think the Neocons are using this as a test case to see just how stupid and apathetic the general public is!! If everything goes as planned, they will really start their global takeover!!

3. If we could harness all the energy that goes into calling for an impeachment that will never happen:
...we could power a large city for 17 months.

Investigations first....

4. What?
You mean we can't impeach him NOW? But so many DUer's have told me we can. They even start threads with titles like "IMPEACH HIM NOW!"

:sarcasm:

9. When I've seen people say that...
It is clear they understand there is a process, that there must be investigations and hearings. What I don't get is that once the ball starts rolling on those things, Bush would undoubtably resign! End of problem! It won't take all that much time for this rat bastard to turn yellow and run.

I don't get the need to argue about it all the time. People need to open their eyes on both sides of this issue.

That's my buck-two-eighty.

7. One argument that makes sense to me is the historical argument
In other words, we as a country need to say that we will not stand for a president who engages in flagrant abuses of power. If you can't impeach the worst, most criminal president in history, you might as well take the provision out of the constitution.

much quicker, none of the pesky procedural pomp. It's not like the military doesn't know how to do it...reverse the curse?

12. Impeachment occurs so rarely that the term is often misunderstood.
A typical misconception is to confuse it with involuntary removal from office; in fact it is only the legal statement of charges, paralleling an indictment in criminal law.

17. What would it accomplish? A Cheney presidency?
Democrats would lose politically.

We need to focus on using Congress to bring the war to a close and pass min wage etc.

20. "Democrats would lose politically"? Are you kidding?
Look what happened after Republicans impeached Clinton. They got rewarded with two terms of Bush including one term of total control of the government.

Don't worry too much about Cheney becoming president. There's a chance Bush would only be impeached, but not removed unless the Senate voted to do so after the initial impeachment. And, if he WAS removed after being impeached, then no doubt Cheney would end up going down with him...and you know what would happen after that.

18. Congress should START with investigations and subpoenas - Bush/Cheney will resign
because neither of them has the strength of character to face the people and answer the deceits that will be seen in their actual agenda.

Nixon didn't have the character to face impeachment and Bush and Cheney have much less stomach and backbone than Nixon.

19. Not true. Clinton was impeached on Dec 19, 1998 and
no serious impeachment-related hearings had taken place before the 1998 mid-term elections a month prior.

Bush must be impeached. It shouldn't even be arguable.
