Quote Of The Day: Rice Warns Against Planning For Possibility Of Failure
By Greg Sargent | bio

"It's bad policy to speculate on what you'll do if a plan fails when you're trying to make a plan work."

-- Condoleezza Rice, quoted in The Washington Post speaking at today's hearings before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (special thanks to TPM Reader SW for the tip)

2. Insanity is defined that way
Plan A didn't work, so Plan B is to keep trying Plan A until it works. I can think of several historic figures that tried that and all of them came to a bad end.

4. That's ridiculous.
It's *always* good to speculate on what you'll do if a plan fails, when you're making that plan. Good grief!

5. The most profoundly imbecilic thing I have heard recently
Anyone in any position of decision making or planning would be laughed out of their responsibilities for saying this.

6. Pointless to buy health insurance
if you're planing on not getting sick.

Pointless to buy auto insurance when you're planning to have no accidents.

Pointless to...

...need I go on?

Wake up, Condi, the grownups are in charge now.

8. Something similar from Gates, too
"At the outset of the strategy, it's a mistake to talk about an exit strategy," he said.

9. If she gets away with it, it's far from dumb.
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 09:37 PM by gulliver
She was careful not to say that it is bad policy to have a backup plan. Talking about it in the open is bad policy. Having a plan B is good policy.

But of course the kicker really is: Will the Dems let the Bushies get away without having a Plan B (revealed only to cleared Congressional Committees for example)? They sure as hell better not, because Plan B is what gets the troops home!

10. How grandiose of our government to scoff at the idea of a "Plan B."
This is what you get when you have a leader who's father has bailed him out of trouble time and time again. This guy and his co-pilot are so out of touch with reality it's ridiculous.

12. Could you imagine Fortune 500 businesses operating this way?
No benchmarks, no targets, no accountability?

And the laughable part is asshat has an MBA from Harvard, and CundoLiar has a Ph.D. from Univ. of Denver. Guess that shows education was lost on these schmucks!

15. Condi should've been laughed out of the room
For saying that: "It's bad policy to speculate on what you'll do if a plan fails when you're trying to make a plan work."

Seriously. I'm amazed she wasn't. It's a testament to bullshit Beltway civility, restraint and myopic misdirection in the U.S. Senate that she wasn't. It's as if there's an alternate universe of no repercussions and people can justify anything. That quote is the very definition of childish INSANITY. Of course, it's all a set up for more chaos in Iraq (we will purposefully create more of that!) and then a jumping off point to dive into Iran full throttle. The thing is, the surface goal of peace and stability in Iraq is not a priority in this administration; I'm convinced it never has been. The idea is to create an eternal war, an endless array of ideological foes, and unlimited opportunities for power grabbing and the U.S. war machine.
