"Assuring there would be no discordant notes here, Maj. Gen. Walter Wojdakowski, the base commander, banned the 300 soldiers who had lunch with the president from talking with reporters. If any of them harbored doubts about heading back to Iraq, many for the third time, they were kept silent".

Utterly pathetic..take a pic with them...send them back to Iraq.

I always shed piles of tears over people--and then tell my underlings to make sure that they STFU.

Makes sense to me.

12. And this is the kind of democracy
and freedom of speech Bush is trying to export to Iraq and elsewhere? This is the kind of democracy he's asking our brave soldiers to die for? They are supposed to be defending THE RIGHT to freedom of speech.

17. Isn't it a soldier's duty to disobey illegal orders?
Odd, though, that these sort of stories have been pretty widely circulated all through Bush's presidency, but they didn't typically come out for days or even weeks or months afterward. Now they come out in the same news cycle. Bush's approval numbers have been tanking even without timely reporting of his imperious ways; what will happen when people are clued in even before the next phony prop shot is staged?

24. Absolutely...this is Watada's defense! Sen. Byrd has also said the War Resolution is unconstitution
al....Hence, if challenged the orders woudl be illegal orders since Congress abrogated it's responsiblity to determien war, but passed it off onto the President to decide.

Additionally, Watadi claims the reasons for war were manipulated.

Illegal orders must not be followed. Remeber Nuremburg. the whole trials were about the I was just folowing orders defense.
