New York Post: Boxer's Low Blow
Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, an appalling scold from California, wasted no time yesterday in dragging the debate over Iraq about as low as it can go - attacking Secre tary of State Condoleezza Rice for being a childless woman.

Boxer was wholly in character for her party - New York's own two Democratic senators, Chuck Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton, were predictably opportunistic - but the Golden State lawmaker earned special attention for the tasteless jibes she aimed at Rice.

Rice appeared before the Senate in defense of President Bush's tactical change in Iraq, and quickly encountered Boxer.

"Who pays the price? I'm not going to pay a personal price," Boxer said. "My kids are too old, and my grandchild is too young."

Then, to Rice: "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family."

<snip>

It's hard to imagine the firestorm that similar comments would have ignited, coming from a Republican to a Democrat, or from a man to a woman, in the United States Senate. (Surely the Associated Press would have put the observation a bit higher than the 18th paragraph of a routine dispatch from Washington.)

But put that aside.

The vapidity - the sheer mindlessness - of Sen. Boxer's assertion makes it clear that the next two years are going to be a time of bitterness and rancor, marked by pettiness of spirit and political self-indulgence of a sort not seen in America for a very long time.

--------------------

This has got to be one of the most inane, whining opinion pieces ever written. They attack, Dems, anyone agianst Bush's "surge" and end with invoking 9/11.

To use their words: "Breathtaking. Simply breathtaking. We scarcely know where to begin."

1. Typical corpmedia twisting of any tough words from a Democrat.

Murtha attacked the troops. Kerry insulted troops. Boxer insulted a defenseless woman.

Typical. Pathetic and typical.

5. It was a well-deserved jab, considering she's helping to send other people's kids to war.
Rice & her media minions need to develop thicker skin.

Where were they when the swiftboaters were doing their schtick about a true war hero?

32. It wasn't a jab.
She was merely pointing out that neither her nor Secretary Rice have immediate family that are of age to serve. Anybody who thinks this is somehow a jab has some serious issues.

This is their way of projecting their disapproval of her (Condi). They(rw-fundis) want to make known of their displeasure of her marital status indirectly if I may say so.

13. I was watching C-Span during this exchange and
this article has totally distorted what was said. Ms. Boxer was simlpy pointing out that niether she nor ms. rice feel the actual pain of having someone serve in Iraq. The pain rests with the families of troops who are serving. The ultimate pain rests with the families of troops that have paid the ultimate price. Ms. boxer`s point seemed to be that niether she nor ms. rice could possibly begin to understand what that type of sacrifice entailed.

16. This morning on Washington Journal on C-Span, Brian Lamb
read quite a bit of this article on air. Didn't focus on the questions Boxer was asking Kindasleezy but on the "attack" of the SOS's childless situation and what a low blow. That, of course, is a misrepresentation of what was actually said but when you need to divert attention away from the SOS bull sh*t then you go with your strong suit - lie, lie, lie. You know that when Washington Journal (usually on Fascist Friday's with Lamb) starts reading long portions of a New York Post article the media is getting really scrambly.

26. How odd.
The story is on the level of, "Angelina criticizes Maddona for adopting a baby." With all of the deadly serious stuff going on, this is what Lamb chose to read? :eyes: That's just sad.

19. Please don't do that to your bird
Recent studies have shown that parrots need far more intellectual stimulation than previously thought. Making your bird stare and the Post all day could lead to existential despair and even suicide attempts.

Several birds have also developed digestive problems as they feel that shitting on the Post would be redundant.

18. NO outrage when Laura Bush said about the same about Condi
Where was the outrage about two weeks ago when Laura said Condi had no family; therefore, she felt it would be difficult for Condi to think about the presidency without family support. This is not ver batim, but it's not that different than what Boxer said. This is just another distraction from the mess Bush has put us in; with the help of John McCain and Joe Leiberman and the rest of his YES Men?

It's very tough to relate to a situation if you've never been in a similar one yourself. It's true she
is educated, but she would be unable to feel the pain of someone who's lost a loved one in Bush's bloody-never ending Civil War, regardless of how smart or nice she might be.
