If there was any doubt a year ago, or even six months ago, there sure as hell isn't any other rational conclusion that could be drawn now. Hell, even the most unreconstructed neocons (the few remaining) think Bush is a bumbling incompetent. For my money, Bush is not just a corrupt and dangerously megalomaniacal Big Oil stooge; he's the figurehead for the larger evil in American politics: the rise of neo-fascism with a smile, the all-but inevitable merger of the global mega-corporation with the pseudo-democratic military super-state—a juggernaught to be feared and despised in every corner of the globe. Bush is right about one thing--we're in the midst of an existential struggle—but it's the battle of liberal democracy and individual liberty versus the all-powerful corporation-state, and until the '06 elections, things were looking grim for the good guys. They still are: Bush is going down, but he'll do his damndest to take the rest of us with him. Hold on tight, boys and girls--the next two years are going to be a hell of a ride.
