...do you "detect" an "Iranian" arms shipment with "military intelligence"???In the real world you either catch the perpetrators or rely on "informants" that will tell you WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR unless there is a chance you can verify the information. Which do you think happened???

the informants will tell you anything for money. So what you do is pay a premium for the truth - pay them a lot MORE money. That way you know they're not lying. See?
