Randi had an awesome caller, I think a vet of Vietnam, not sure. If Chimpy wants a war, EVERYBODY needs to sacrafice. Bring back the draft, rations, no profiteering on war supplies, gas rations, meatless Fridays, etc. I'm going to add buying U.S. Savings Bonds to help pay for it. Why not the draft??? We've got able-bodied young men and women who are hardly aware of the slaughter that's going on half a world away. If we start serious talks about the draft, and there will be a backlash undoubtedly, but screw 'em. The ones yelling the loudest will be Tiffany and Biff's parents..... Send the ROTC to Lawrenceville, Peddie and all the other preppie schools. Let these people join in the war. Get those young stockbrokers making their big bucks and driving their BMW's off to the gym. They're in good shape, send them off to Baghdad...

1. What's with all the DUers who sport wood whenever anyone says "draft"?
More cannon fodder to feed the beast just makes for a more ravenous beast.

3. My point is, mention the draft and this "escalation" will most likely
come to a screeching halt..

2. It would certainly compel more Americans to take interest
...and be critical of the reasons we go to war. People wouldn't be so disposed to parrot the lies if it meant their butts being sent into the meatgrinder.

5. Institute a draft and suddenly Americans will be paying attention to
what the hell is going on with the US.

7. As chimpy said on the teevee last night..."this is a different time
they are volunteers, they understand that deployments may be extended. They joined the military so they can serve god by killing as many brown freedom-hating children as they can. Americans will find these murderers and kill them...that's why they signed up."

OK, that last part was a bit of hyperbole.

8. Won't this mean that poor kids will have to fight the war whether they
want to or not?

I don't really see the Bush twins going off to war. No sort of draft will have any effect on them. The rich & republican will find excuses to dodge the draft. The same demographic who are now fighting still will be, only in larger numbers.

Someone will have to convince me that this would really level the playing field and share the burden.

We can start by drafting these people:

or their kids, in the case of Munoz and his generation. Anthony's two kids are college varsity athletes. They would make great soldiers.

9. This reminds me of last Saturday's SNL intro
where the president was proposing calling up anybody in a uniform, i.e., cops, mailmen, nurses, nuns...

10. DRAFT = TOTAL LOSS of Youth Vote in '08.
What is it with supporting a draft?
Do we want the Draft to associated with Democrats?

I think this is a STUPID idea!
This will only drive away voters when we need them the most.

11. I would much rather see ,
real Americans leading this country. Serious non-egotistical leaders of character and substance.
Who would not start wars for flight suit jock strap photo-ops, unlike these Rush Limbaugh butt-cheese snarfing pigs that make up the Bushler administration.

12. So how will Bush "sacrifice" under a draft?
What would he have to lose?
