New Campaign Against Iraq War Escalation Includes Labor - 01/16/07

By Doug Cunningham

The SEIU has joined a campaign against the troop buildup in Iraq. Called Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, the campaign includes USAction, MoveON.Org, United For Peace and Justice, the Campaign for America’s Future and other groups. USAction President William McNary says the purpose of the campaign is to mobilize the discontent, anger and outrage Americans feel over the planned escalation of the Iraq War.

1. We didn't have Big Labor with us against the Vietnam War.
Remember Hardhats versus Hippies?

Too many good union jobs involved making helicopters & machine guns.

Labor sold their own kids to the War Machine for money. Then they voted for Reagan. Reagan smashed them, and they kept on voting Puggy. Hope they've woken up. If Bush has now turned the working class back into leftists, he inadvertently did something that future generations will owe him for.

5. Most ot the hardhats were against the war, It was George Meany and
Hoffa and the bosses that were pieces of warmongering feces.

6. Yeah in those days we still had manufacturing jobs in the US.

The problem is all the manufacturing jobs are in other countries now. So labor is not shooting themselves in the foot. My how times have changed.

Yes and war is good for the economy, the question is who's economy, China, India, Taiwan?

2. I had to double-take at that headline
Being British, the last thing I'd see is a headline about Labour opposing this war

4. Sadly, it isn't something we see here often enough. Rank and file, yes,
the leadership tend to follow capital, of course.

3. This is very important. Unions must speak up!
We also must push every congressperson to defund the war. Now.
