How many Repubs supporting Bush now will be backtracking by next year? |

It's fairly safe to support Bush today. If his plan fails or appears in dire straits, they can always withdraw their support, a la Senator Gordon Smith. Especially if they are up for re-election. The Democrats should remind them that it will not be that easy. They will be held responsible for their "surge" votes. They will not be permitted to say "I'm sorry...I made a mistake" jsut before the next election. Republicans need to be put on notice. They will be held responsible for their votes.

That's why a resolution, even non-binding, that makes them put their name on the record as for or against, is a good first step.
