My thoughts on the Obama run...
<snip> Go out side and take in a deep breath. That is what it is like when you hear Barack Obama speak. It is like a nice breath of fresh air. Finally someone that is not only critical of what is happening in politics today but optimistic on how to fix it. That, like fresh air, is becoming so hard to find today. </snip>

2. Wow
Thinking so far beyond the most recent paradigms really is refreshing isn't it?
Obama doesn't "transcend race." Obama transcends class and culture. He could offer a candidacy and a presidency that would help unify us.
There may be a question of how many people on both sides will take an interest in looking for common ground. It seems there is common ground regarding the war.
If framed properly, it's possible that more people could be in agreement with Ludacris than expected......
If someone "with credibility" successfully points that out is it possible that more minds may begin to question what we all have in common?

5. Why is my gut telling me something else? I fell for the guy when

he spoke at the '04 convention just like everyone else. I remember thinking this guy could very easily be our president someday. I still think that, but not in 2008. I started noticing some wee bit of arrogance or, god, I could be wrong and I don't mean to say that Obama isn't for real, it's just this feeling that all of this has happened to him too quickly. There is this look in his eyes. I don't blame him. He has people treating him like a major celebrity every where he goes. I love the excitement and, like you say, breath of fresh air he brings to the political process at this time, BUT...something doesn't feel right. And as of yet, I don't have a particular dog in this hunt. I'm still open to Edwards and, please forgive me, even Biden. Others possibly. I would love to have a woman president and it might as well be Hillary. I don't know. I certainly need this next year to take that good long look and to do all the research I can. Right now, I think I would prefer Mr. Obama as a possible VP candidate and then see him continue on as president in 2016.

It really was this look I started seeing in his eyes. Maybe it's just because he's so good looking and very confident. But to be honest, I think that look is there because he has risen so high so fast. I remember the look of complete "awe" on Hillary Clinton's face when she watched him give his speech at the Convention. Dang, if he can do that to her I guess it was inevitable that the party and the people would literally push him into running, in my opinion, too soon in his political career. But, strike while the iron is hot they say. I don't blame him at all for running now. I think it's possible that Clinton and Obama might split some primary votes and let an Edwards slip through.

Ahhh, don't you love politics?

edited because you would think I would know how to spell HILLARY by now...geez

6. I noticed there was not many threads if any about this...
besides yours. I HOPE it's just because we still don't know if he's running. OR it's because everyone (including me) is waiting for Wes Clark to announce HE'S running or forming an exploratory committee (although he shouldn't have to go through that step since he's already been there). MY ideal ticket would be Clark/Obama. But I hope Obsma runs. It would be good experience for him if nothing else. He should try.

7. Looks and charm are not going to

elect a black man president when he hasn't even finished one Senate term. He has great possibilities but he needs to have some Congressional achievements. Experience counts.
