1. Since the 'Pubbies and the MSM have been saying that over and over
for the last year or so, of course people believe it, and the poll reflects that. The Dems have been farting in a whirlwind. They do have plans, but nobody pays any attention.

4. Why don`t they scream it from the highest mountains...
that the dems "plan" is to leave!! Cut our losses now and get the hell out of there. "Thier "plan" is to stay forever to protect OIL interests, with permanent bases and the imperial palace for our embassy members.

5. This is a problem (eventhough, granted we are not the ones setting the policy)
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 09:36 PM by Clarkie1
I will tell you one thing though, Americans are smart enough to understand that throwing numbers to the winds (say, 50,000) is NOT a comprehensive policy alternative by any standard.

This is one of the reasons I advocated the Democratic Party endorsing the findings of the Iraq Study Group. That plan had enough political capital to be credible across a wide swath of the political spectrum, and it would have nullified this meme.

There are other alternatives. Clark has said he will decide whether or not run in the next few weeks. Soon the question will become not what political party has the best plan (eventhough it's ultimately G.W.B. who will be implementing the policy for two more years) but what Presidential candidate has the level of understanding, skill, and experience necessary to respond to changing circumstances and formulate a real plan to make the best of the biggest foreign policy blunder in American history once G.W.B. leaves office.

18. There is of course another unannounced candidate
candidate who has a plan - that was even debated in Congress. If the "party leaders" that somehow don't include the man elected as the last nominee had there way - there would have been no discussed Democratic plan at all.

7. I didn't see the question Gallup asked, but I heard a slip on
Scarboro a few minutes ago that gives me a strong hint!

He said 27% of the people polled son't believe Shrub has a plan for Iraq. THEN he said those same people were asked if the Democrats have a clear plan in Iraq? Joe said only20% believe they do.

I THINK the question asked was does the Prez(or the Dems) have a plan to in Iraq. IfI'm right, I'm surprised that ANYONE answered yes to either question. Idon't think there is ANY WAY to win there, and noone is going to have any ideas because there aren't any!!!!

I think Gallup asked if either the Prez or the Dems had a plan to win in Iraq!

It seems everyone is leaving those 2 words out! NOBODY has a plan to WIN because there is NO way to do so!

16. Oh, we have to WIN
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 10:06 PM by Dean Martin
Yeah, I missed that. That stupid win word again. I like the "leave" option best.

Reminds me of the Firefly movie where Shepherd Book asks Malcolm Reynolds "Do you have a plan?" and MR replies "Hidin' ain't a plan?"

11. Dems need a united front to stop BushCo's Armageddon scenario --- we cannot wait 2 more yrs, either
Again, I say, "Impeach."
The world needs a new US administration to deal with the wars BushCo started and be an honest broker who is not so cozy with BigOil carving up Iraq's oil fields for themselves.

13. How do you do impeach if ....
the Congress votes for the supplement in February to continue the Iraq war? This, with the authorization, will make us look like idiots.

12. DC Dem strategy
They don't want to be specific on a plan because they can't implement it and it will likely change as events on the ground change. If they specify a plan, it won't make the entire Dem Party happy and will put the Iraq target square on Dems. If they specify a plan and have to change it, they'll be called wishy-washy and flip-flopper. So the DC Dems believe it strategically wise not to put out a plan.

Which goes completely againt Murtha-Kerry-Feingold-Kucinch and others, who have disengagement plans that are fairly similar. But the people who could join together around a disengagement plan are too busy candidate pimping to realize they'd make the DC Dems sit up and take notice if they could just agree on the basic idea of withdrawal.

Consequently, it's true, the Dems have no plan.

15. This unfortunately can b ecome the Achilles Heel
for our Party. On one of the Sunday Programs I heard
some of the Reporters say this would be the theme
of the week. It will not be enough for the Dems to
criticize the Bush Plan--they will have to put up
their own.

Why they did not take the Baker Group Recommendations
and develop their own plan I will never understand
them.

Last night I watched a hearing on C_Span in which
Joe Biden's Committee --Foreign Relations heard
from a Neo Conservative (American Entrerprise Institute)
a real Classic Conservative from the Cato Institute and
Galbraith(John K Galbraith's Son. This was one of the
best hearings I have ever watched. The Presenters
gave the most complete arguments ever. The NeoCon
presented the case for being with the President and
the Classic Conservative gave the best plan on why
and how to get out. Galbraith added commentary along
the way.

The Dems might pull the Conservative Position from
the Congressional Record. I never in my life thought
I would ever be embracing a Conservative from Cato.
He was right on. In his written report to the Committee
he refutes each of the cries __---It will
be disasterous, there will be civil war, Regional War
--you know all the reasons they give for our not leaving.
In Summary--there is civil war right now and frankly it
cannot get much worse. If we leave tomorrow there
will still be Civil War--If we leave in 2years or 6 years
there will be be Civil War. Staying we only prolong the
agony, endanger our troops and spend billions of dollars
we no longer have.

Our party is going to have to take a position and the
Media is just starting.
