LOL Colbert made a FOOL out of Dinesh D'Souza last night
Lounge thread here

No video yet but when there is you really really must see this.

Dinesh D'Souza bio here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinesh_D'Souza

So D'Souza was on to promote his latest book "The Enemy At Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibilty for 9/11" (remember that title it comes in handy later) and after he claims that Reagan's selling of Hawk missiles to Ghaddafi kept him out of the terrorism business (huh?) he went on to claim that gays were part of the reason that 9/11 happened oh and then he admitted that he really didn't know very much about gay culture.

THEN it got weird.

Colbert actually got him to admit that he, D'Souza, agreed with "some of the things that these radical Islamic fundamentalist have to say" as Colbert put it "you do agree with that statement don't you"

D'Souza "Yes"

then and I mean right then Colbert says (~paraphrased) "So the left is the cause of why 9/11 happened"

D'Souza "I think that is taking it a bit far" :wow:

Colbert "That is why I had you on the show because I agree with that statement (pointing to and reading from the book cover)The Cultural Left and Its Responsibilty for 9/11"

D'Souza (incredulously) "I DIDN'T DO 9/11!!!"

Colbert then went on to turn it back on the the left and Hollywood tasking his foot off D'Souza's neck if you will.

The funniest part was that D'Souza didn't seem to know what was happening. Colbert used an old tactic that RW radio host do all the time-keep reasking a question cutting off the replies until you make a statement and ask if they agree with it. I watched this thing a couple of times (sorry didn't take exact notes on the quotation), the audience's response is muted a bit but some appear to realize what Colbert had just gotten D'Souza to do-REJECT HIS OWN THESIS.

2. Eh I wouldn't expect too much out of it
I don't think it will be as *Cough* lame as the guitar off with the Decemberists but Colbert really respects HOW O'Reilly has mastered this style of TV. I posted a complete four part interview with Colbert on Charlie Rose in the Video forum-in it Colbert is clear that he doesn't mock O'Reilly but that he uses the master's work as a guide. Like it or not O'Reilly KILLS in ratings and he is seen by all as the #1 political trash talk host.

8. I ddin't even know who the scheduled guest was to be until the Stewart teaser, and was quite sleepy,
but when he said D'Souza, I knew I had to force myself to stay awake for that one!
I honestly think that Dinesh is so far out of touch with reality that he actually thought he could take on Colbert, probably someone told him, "He is a funny guy with a talkshow who was at the presidential press club dinner recently" or something like that!
Oh, Mr. D'Souza, "know thine enemy" is the first rule of war!
Colbert reduced all the inherent contradictions within neoconservative mindthought to its ultimate and made D'Souza a complete fool!
Yes, the look on his face was priceless....
Almost as if someone had taken him to a traditional Mexican restaurant and urged him to order "juevos con sesos," then when it arrived and taken a bite being informed that the other diner was amazed that he loved eating brains with eggs so much!

10. This guy isn't new
His Wiki page says that he at least was allowed IN the White House back when Reagan was still there. You would think that he not only would know what he was getting into but also that he would put the brakes on it if he got caught up in it ....but I guess not.

Colbert in no way tricked him either. He clearly restated the point about agreeing with "radical Islamic fundamentalists".

D'Souza is probably just used to being coddled on RW shows and by RW hosts.

The title of the book blows his credibility out of the water anyway. Don't they know that this isn't selling anymore?

watch because that fucktard was a guest, but Stephen handled him beautifully. The guy didn't know what hit him; the look on his face at the end was priceless! I heart Stephen Colbert.

Here's one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinesh_d%27Souza

I love Colbert. Can't wait to see the video. Dinesh also assured one and all a few years back that there is no more racism. Not sure what he's smoking but it must be good.

I'll look for the video later on.

I'd love to see a 9-11 debunker taken down and not even know what happened.

6. That's Colbert's MO
He's a master at goofing on right wing idiots and getting them to repudiate every position they ever held.

His only problem is that he's too subtle for right wingers, who invariably think he's agreeing with their whole line of bullshit.

Remember the White House Press Banquet? Most of those people had no clue how scathingly they had been insulted.

I'm sure he'll eventually find some left wing idiots to goof on. In the meantime, I'm delighted he's on our side and not theirs.

7. Colbert is the master
It reminded me of something my cat did a few weeks ago.

I have three cats: one adult cat and two kittens. The two kittens sometimes get on the older cat's nerves. So one day they were playing on a throw rug and the next thing I saw were some paws flying and the older cat, Greenlee, walking away.

There were the two little cats, wrapped in the rug with just their heads sticking out, stunned looks on their faces. Greenlee then reposed on the hassock while the other two were left to "re-assemble." They were so stunned it took them about 15" to get out of their "straight jacket" and back to normal.

That's the way it was with Dinesh. His face looked like he'd been wrapped up in a rug. It was a beautiful thing.

I look forward to the video, and thanks for the defining points in your post 2, underpants.

Cher

9. I got off the D'Souza Train after his first book...
"Illiberal Education" is the gold-standard for whiney-ass conservative polemics. He basically says that in promoting free speech and diversity, universities are hostile to conservative values.

Translation: Conservatives are racists. When you teach people to not be racist, you're trampling their core values.

As amusing as the Colbert interview is (I haven't seen, but I'll be waiting for the link), we have to remember that these people are not to be reasoned with. Liberals are willing to listen to all sides (including conservatives), but conservatives demand that only their views be discussed in the marketplace of ideas. To extend the metaphor: Conservatives desire a complete monopoly on political thought in the United States.

It is the intellectual equivalent of facism, and I am perfectly will to compromise on the liberal tradition of free speech when I say that their position is one to be defeated and locked in the intellectual basement -- because they will do the same to us.

11. The leap D'Souza makes to even get to his premise is a big one
He seems to think that the conservative revolution that has helped to create him as a vehicle is the way that it always has been. The fact that "revolution" is involved doesn't seem to have mattered to him.

This premise rejects several things, such as the whole progressive movement surrounding the industrial revolution and there after, but we know that they are just trying to revise history to make it seem that their bullshit has ever really been accepted before the advent of direct mailing and the repeal of the fairness doctrine.

13. Declined to shake his hand at the end????
When the camera panned away after the interview it looked like Steven extended his arm to shake his hand and D'Souza declined. I could be wrong but that is what it looked like. These right wingers sure aren't good sports when they get their lunch handed to him. Who writes this drivel for these intellectual lightweights? I have a hard time believing this guy could write more than a handbill.

Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 12:42 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
In one of the bigger ironies (or hypocrisies) of his miserable existence, Dinesh D'Souza would be delivering pizza's in Hanover were it not for generous subsidies -- not to be confused with welfare -- from wealthy conservatives who fund his thinktank job and buy (but certainly never read) copies of his books.

That makes it clear that this guy is just a mouthpiece for the powers that be in the conservative movement and this is part of his created persona. Another cardboard character.

In all seriousness...

Do the guests actually *know* beforehand the program is satire? I can understand that a few, not-too-bright-bulbs in Sgt. Freeper's Lonely Hearts Club Land may not have caught on; but for a guest to show up thinking he's going to get cheerleading for a new book.... it makes me wonder

21. D'Souza has been kept around long enough that he should know that
but, as I have posted before, he may be so used to being given an open platform that he had no idea that Colbert could or would do that to him. Colbert said in Charlie Rose that the interview is all him and unwritten-his improv history comes in handy here I suspect that Colbert saw this rare opportunity and just tried to see if he could actually get someone to go along with it. D'Souza's outrageous accusations made him a fitting candidate. His empty-suitness made the moment possible.

20. Conservatives have alot in common with the terrorists.
Both of them hate women, gays, and religions that are not their own.
It's no suprise to see Dinesh take similar stances to those of OBL. I am serious when I say this.
