The Cracked Egg (Mary Lyon)
by Mary Lyon, From The Left -- World News Trust

Jan. 17, 2007 -- Wow, thanks, George, oh ye Giver of Many Nicknames! I've literally been dumbfounded by the events of the last week -- after watching his pathetic "Let's Keep Feeding the Meatgrinder" speech. George likes to give out nicknames to people. I was never fooled when that baloney started, as most of the rest of the press corpse fell all over themselves at his feet upon his arrival in Washington. Oh, PLEASE, Mr. President! Can I have one of those cutesy, folksy nicknames you've been giving out like so many autographs? I wanna be one of your pets! Can I be in your in-crowd? Oh, you're SO adorable! PLEEZE?? My kingdom for a nickname! My credibility for a nickname!!! PLEEEEEEZE!!! OOOOhhh -- he gave me one! He likes me, he really likes me!" YUCK. I can give out nicknames, too, Junior, and "President Pandora" was starting to sound pretty good.

See Pandora. See Pandora do the Texas Two-Step. See Pandora play armchair warrior. See Pandora pick a fight. See Pandora throw another 21,000 American lives away. See Pandora start picking ANOTHER fight -- in Iran this time. Pandora Gone Wild. But after the idiocy recently on view opposite interviewer Jim Lehrer, see Pandora move over. I think Humpty Dumpty is far more fitting.

MR. LEHRER: Is there a little bit of a broken egg problem here, Mr. President, that there is instability and there is violence in Iraq -- sectarian violence, Iraqis killing other Iraqis -- and now the United States helped create the broken egg and now says, okay, Iraqis, it's your problem. You put the egg back together, and if you don't do it quickly and you don't do it well, then we'll get the hell out.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Yeah, you know, that's an interesting question. I don't quite view it as the broken egg; I view it as the cracked egg ...

MR. LEHRER: Cracked egg?

PRESIDENT BUSH: ... that where we still have a chance to move beyond the broken egg. And I thought long and hard about the decision, Jim. Obviously it's a big decision for this theater in the war on terror, and you know, if I didn't believe we could keep the egg from fully cracking, I wouldn't ask 21,000 kids -- additional kids to go into Iraq to reinforce those troops that are there.

What's different is an Iraqi attitude, and it is -- look, failure last time was not enough troops in Baghdad, and the rules of engagement were such that our troops couldn't move when given an order. Their order was countermanded by Iraqi politicians -- in other words, you need to go get this guy in a particular neighborhood, and they would be moving in toward him, and then the Iraqis would pull -- say, well, we'd better not make that move right now, we'd better -- it may be too much politics. And Prime Minister Maliki has assured his commander and our commander that the rules of engagement will be different this time. And so things have changed. In other words, I'm not putting troops into a situation where there hadn't been enough changes to assure me that we can make progress.

Mom must have dropped Junior on his head back in the day. THAT'S the cracked egg, alright. Unbelievable. "The cracked egg"??? Like that's any more savory than a flat-out broken egg. Or any more salvageable. You can't do squat with a cracked egg except break it all the way, as any cook or rowdy movie reviewer would know. All the king's horses and all the king's men won't improve things, even as they diligently fanned out all over the Sunday talk shows to "sell" the extremely cracked Bush Escalation Plans for Iraq. They did as well as though they really were selling cracked eggs.

My mother-in-law, rest her sweet soul, used to say this about (usually unruly) kids: "they don't suck it out of their thumbs." Meaning - they get it from somewhere. Like those responsible for their upbringing.

bush was cracked from the get-go. And he IS rotten from within. And proximity to him is usually rather injurious to one's health. I can think of at least three thousand Americans who wound up the worse for it, and that's just regarding the war...

BTW - thanks for the kick! :hi:

take that long. I'm not sure we can afford to keep him around til the end of the term. I'm also hoping that, as his decisions grow worse and worse, more and more defiant of the will of ever-increasing numbers of Americans and fearful, disgusted Republicans on Capitol Hill (who are also getting it in the shorts from constituent complaints about him, no doubt), we may yet see him thrown overboard before the start of the next presidency.

When we call our reps, I strongly suggest we plant the seed (and keep cultivating it) that - hey, we DON'T have to take this. We DON'T have to let it sit and fester like this. We DON'T have to scream, yell, protest, lobby, and aggitate while he ignores us and spills more blood. It DOESN'T HAVE TO KEEP UP LIKE THIS.

Cheers! And thanks, much!

"cracked egg" reference, to kick off a new comedy bit titled "George W. Bush Inappropriate Smile". It was absolutely creepy...a very Ted Bundy-esque grin that crossed his face as Jim Lehrer was asking him about the broken egg...

The guy is absolutely psychopathic.

And THEN, if that weren't bad enough, for him to talk about how we're all "sacrificing" because we get bummed out watching the carnage on TV. That's his idea of broad-based, shared sacrifice.

My God.

54. No problem.
Although I looked up psychopath - since I sometimes fling these terms around like so many cowpies - and here's what wikipedia has, in part:

A psychopath is defined as a person having no concerns for the feelings of others and a complete disregard for any sense of social obligation. They seem egocentric and lack insight and any sense of responsibility or consequence. Their emotions are thought to be superficial and shallow, if they exist at all. They are considered callous, manipulative, and incapable of forming lasting relationships, let alone of any meaningful love.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychopathy

---

Good sociopathy description here:

Personality Structure
By definition these people are at least temporarily very successful in society. They achieve their success by socially unacceptable means and at the expense of the community and its citizens. As Robertson et al pointed out in 1996 a number of entrepreneurs seem to have these characteristics. These people tend to embrace a particular and often limited belief system to the exclusion of others. They have no doubts. Typically these belief systems have an internal logic. Actions based on the belief system often produces the desired and predicted outcomes. Their views do not stand up to criticism when alternative understandings are used. Views applicable to some activities in society may be given universal relevance and applied to activities where they are clearly inappropriate. These views or their application should not be acceptable to society but society frequently identifies uncritically with their logic and fails to challenge them.

Sociopathic individuals are extremely self-confidant, intelligent, charismatic and persuasive of others as well as themselves. They inspire those around them and create a dysfunctional culture, - often dizzy and disoriented by its success. Success is proof of the accuracy of any claim they make. Words and sometimes bizarre ideas become a substitute for reality. They surround themselves by supporters who worship them and believe they can do no wrong. These loyalties persist even when their world collapses around them. The community admires them. The system of justice seldom pursues them. They have enormous drive and ambition but few qualms about how they accomplish their objectives. They are focussed. They deal with conflicting evidence, by selective perception, compartmentalising, rationalising, by attacking its credibility, or by demonising the messenger. They are more likely to develop patterns of thought which allow them to indulge in criminal activity or to disregard the interests of others. They can be very successful entrepreneurs.

They surround themselves with admirers. When a group identifies with dysfunctional ideas and adopts these patterns of thinking then they reinforce each other. Dissenters leave or are ostracised. A subculture or even a culture forms. When this culture is very successful, when there are adverse outcomes for individuals or for sections of society as a consequence of beliefs and actions, and when the culture is deaf to reason or facts then I call this process successful sociopathy. We have ready examples in apartheid and the holocaust. Once a successful culture is established it assumes an independent momentum and spreads rapidly. Its acquires a legitimacy and an unquestioned and self evident correctness, which few dare challenge. Nothing is as convincing as success.

The nature of these sociopaths make the empires which they create extremely fragile and vulnerable - a spectacular house of cards which at times comes tumbling down amidst revelations of misconduct. When these people hold the floor they are persuasive but their ideas do not stand up to critical scrutiny or questioning. They talk only to the converted. They seldom engage in open debate or give press interviews where they are confronted by critics. They employ trained PR firms to present their point of view.

http://www.uow.edu.au/arts/sts/bmartin/dissent/documents/health/sociopathy.html

Hah! See what you made me do? Look something up! It actually sounds as though both terms fit the jerk. But perhaps moreso in the case of sociopathy, and in such eerie detail.

IMPEACHMENT, ANYONE?

As he digs in his heels harder, and the war front looks ever bleaker and bloodier, I grow more optimistic that it will start dawning on more and more people that IMPEACHMENT is the ONLY realistic option available to us, at this point, to stop this madman. And that he is. Olbermann's show ran a caption at the bottom of the screen yesterday calling it "The Madness of King George." TOO true.

31. Yeah, there's that word again "interesting." "That's an interesting
question." "That's the interesting thing about being president." On and on. That's like saying it was an "interesting evening" when you and your blind date nearly came to blows.

That's what you say when you're tap-dancing, or you don't really have a good answer, or you don't know what the fuck to to say, at all. You keep falling back on saying something is "interesting" when you are completely bereft of any coherent thought or reasonable ideas/solutions. When you're an IDIOT, in other words. I guess as he would describe it - "an interesting idiot."

IMPEACHMENT, ANYONE??? We gonna keep slogging through two more years of this shit? That okay with everybody?

to this shithead. 'Cause that's what spills out of his mouth every time he "communicates."

I am really getting fed up with this detestable individual. I'm starting to nudge people to think of the realm of the possible: We REALLY DON'T have to put up with him all the way til January 2009, you know. We CAN do something about it BEFORE then. There IS the IMPEACHMENT option...

IMPEACHMENT. Not so unrealistic anymore. In fact (as dick seems to enjoy saying all the time), it's a priority. A damned URGENT priority.

41. Impeachment! What else is there?
Pelosi, et al., need to realize that people (Dems-type people) are beginning to make underground talk about abandoning the Dems if they don't step up to the plate. Some people just feel that Fascism Lite is *not* better than what we've been enduring, because it puts the lie to all the promises of a new direction from November 7 onward.

I am very happy about the minimum wage, Medicare drugs, student loans and all that. It's what a reasonable government should be doing. But there is that little matter of lying down with dogs and rising up with fleas which the Dems are not addressing. There *are* all those deaths in Iraq!

Are you aware that a New Mexico state senator, Ortiz y Pino, has introduced a bill of impeachment in the NM legislature, under the rules of the Jefferson Manual? We're hoping it passes. And New Jersey and California and other states and cities are likewise working on this protocol.

They (the House) may be able to table one or two of these, but if they just keep flowing, eventually I'd think we would get a hearing. It's an outrage that we aren't hearing about the impeachment process grinding into gear as we speak, in the House -- without the state legislatures having to push them into it.

44. I can understand completely. Maybe a cross-stitched pillow
with "Bless This IMPEACHMENT"? Just a thought.

I make a little polymer clay ornament every Christmas and we wind up sending it out instead of Christmas cards. In 2004, after that horrible election, I made little blue (in honor of the blue states) peace signs. My God, EVERYBODY wanted one. I kept making them well into January because people just kept wanting them, asking for them, wanting to send them to friends and family, the demand was just amazing. Really startling. I think it's because a LOT of people were hurting from that election. We'd all take ANY comfort we could find. I found some solace in that - sitting there at my little table, for a couple of hours each evening, putting my brain on hold and just letting my hands make and make and make. I wound up making more than 600 of 'em!

You might consider some sort of artistic expression as a kind of "art therapy," to get you through these frustrating times. I've seen that effect at work numerous times since this dreadful bush era began. And it's actually helpful to people. If not, BELIEVE ME I understand. But think of how many great songs have been created out of heartbreak. Sometimes art really saves - and helps heal.

And - wow - you're in Santa Fe??? Sigh... A near paradise of magical vibes and creative explosions! I can't think of many things more marvelous or spiritually enriching and nurturing than watching it snow in Santa Fe. Hopefully there's a nice cup of cocoa or hot tea near you to complete the picture!

Printmaking is my thing, as well as drawing. I should just sit here in the evenings and grit my teeth and incise deep marks in aluminum plate (visualizing all the while that I'm x-ing out the whole Bush administration). For relaxation, you know?

And there is that sweater that's been finished for two years except that the sleeves don't match, and I'm just frozen with indecision about which one to rip out and redo! :)

Or...I should just start a new sweater, with no cables, just knit and purl, over and over again. Like basket weaving!

Sounds like you could go in the peace icon business, and make them for each holiday. And you could sell them on the Net!

56. Cool! Pretty much, I've done Christmassy symbols. They have to be
simple because they have to be easy to make in large numbers. Nothing too terribly complex or detailed or elaborate - that's time-consuming. This year I made a five-pointed star out of glow-in-the-dark clay. Last year it was a multicolor treble clef. I've done Santa hats, wreaths, bells, and then from 1999 to 2002, I simply did the number of the year - when will I EVER get another chance to address once-in-a-millennium numbers like that? Never repeated anything from one year to the next. For 2007, I haven't decided yet, but it could be a stocking or a tree or something. But there's time. I usually don't start this annual routine til around Thanksgiving weekend.

...or binge-drank throughout the pregnancy, which is more likely.

But I digress. Nice job, Mar!

Sorry to be repetitive, but bush isn't the only person who can "kind of catapult the propaganda."

IMPEACHMENT, ANYONE??? It just might be the only weapon we have left in the armory.

38. I would suspect so. On SOMETHING. Ever notice how he artificially
EEE-NUNNNN-SEE-ATES certain random words when he's speaking? Usually it's the bigger words. I noticed that all the time with dorm mates and other pals in college who were drunk as skunks and trying extra hard to sound more coherent than they were. Somehow they thought all that enunciation would mask the slurred speech.

52. I'm just guessing, but I'm a survivor of too many dorm parties.
I know how I tried to overcompensate during the few binges I allowed myself (didn't do many. Just once holding a roommate's hair up while she puked her guts out in the bathroom and made a mess EVERYWHERE within a six-foot radius was enough for me. Besides, it was fattening). And I know how many woozy friends and fellow students did that same thing, trying to sound straight and clear-headed and failing colossally.
