College Republicans To Finally See The Real Cost Of War (Visit Walter Reed)
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/1/17/23216/6547

I know, it's not something you'd expect to see happen in our lifetimes, but the College Republicans of George Washington University will be visiting wounded servicemembers at Walter Reed this Friday. The best part, they've extended an open invitation for others to come along!

Hannibal's diary :: ::
We invite all students, regardless of party affiliation, to join us in visiting wounded American soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital this Friday night. While war is an understandable source of disagreement, we must transcend partisan divisions and facilitate broad-based support for the men and women of the armed forces.

I just wish I could be there to see them lose their lunch after they get a look at the burn unit. Like the folks over at Operation Yellow Elephant, I think the Republibrats should just send their womenfolk, it would be the patriotic thing to do, and would do a lot more to boost morale than some dickhead spoiled brat of a fratboy wanting to high five some servicemember with a missing hand.

<snip>

What's so interesting, is that they think they'll be providing a real service to those wounded warriors at Walter Reed. Or, in their words:

This weekend the College Republicans will honor young soldiers who, like our fathers in Vietnam, are engaged in an epic struggle between good and evil. As we perform this vital public service, we must also remember the history of a by-gone era. The Vietnam War enjoyed early popularity, but a radical youth movement eventually undermined America's attempt to thwart the spread of global communism. The consequences were catastrophic: the humiliation of our nation and military, and the deaths of 1.7 million Indochinese citizens.

Someone please send some Army and Marine recruiters down to Walter Reed - Those inspired Yellow Elephant Chickenhawks will want to sign right up and put their butts on the line. :sarcasm:

12. Also--"Indochinese" citizens? I haven't seen anyone use the word
Edited on Thu Jan-18-07 02:34 AM by BlueIris
'Indochinese' to describe anyone or anything in South Asia since...ever. Not in my lifetime. (Plus--1.7 million? Tack another mil onto that number and you might be close.) That paragraph was surreal. Like it was ripped from an Encyclopedia Britannica circa 1976. And I can't believe it brought up the "humiliation" of our patriarchy military factor. KARL. GIVE IT UP.

4. I'd love it if the troops handed them enlistment forms and said "enlist or STFU."
But, sadly, you know that they will only be allowed around those who either can't communicate or those still blinded by the kool-aid.

6. Don't expect it to change any of those Kool-Aid-damaged minds....
Is there a less-evolved group of tree-dwellers than College Repugs?

10. How nice of them
Wish I lived in DC so I could tag along. Can you imagine the tales of derring-do being swapped by the college boys and the wounded? An IED explodes, sure, but how does that compare to pulling an all-nighter after the Deke mixer and acing (or at least getting a C) the history mid-term?

11. These Repugs will not serve 'cause they want to become war planners
All the neo-con war planners never servered. Cheney had other priorities &
* was fighting the enemy in Texas.

13. I hope this plan spreads to other College Republican branches. These are the people who most need to
see the costs of the war they support.

14. And when the wounded troops say they don't support the war, will
the Yellow Elephants tell them they are being unpatriotic and aiding the enemy? This really might be an eye opening experience for them, wish they hadn't waited almost 5 years to "support the troops"

15. Not Their Fathers
I doubt that many of their fathers fought in Vietnam. If their fathers are anything like the Republicans in Congress they probably spent those years dodging Vietnam. In addition, their going to Walter Reed, though I will aplaude them for that and ask why the Democrats did not beat them to this, is not a public service. In addition, even though America left Vietnam communism failed and not because of Ronald Reagan. Yes, hopefully some military recruiters will meet them at Walter Reed.

16. Snark - you mean we lost VN and thus allowed the spread of Communism?
I must have missed the news about all those other dominoes falling after the hippes kept Smirk and Dick and Limpballs from winning the war.

17. Don't just take them to the burn unit
show them the amputees as well - especially those who have lost their genitals.

I hope the soldiers shame these elitist little turds out of there.
