Bobby Kennedy Jr. may test New York’s political waters

Bobby Kennedy Jr. is ready to run.

The Riverkeeper champion tells Oprah Winfrey in the February issue of her mag, O, that if Hillary Clinton runs for President, he’d be up for entering the race for her New York Senate seat.

Kennedy was 14 in 1968 when his father, Bobby Sr. (himself a senator from New York), was assassinated after winning California’s Democratic presidential primary. The younger Kennedy, one of 10 kids, overcame personal difficulty to become one of America’s great environmentalists.

The 52-year-old father of six tells Winfrey that he won’t run for the Senate or for governor now because “my friends are in those offices, and I’m not going to run against them.”

Kennedy, who worked during his 20s as an assistant district attorney, last year mulled a run for state attorney general, a race won by his former brother-in-law Andrew Cuomo. <skip>

He has liked working on the foundation that cleaned up the Hudson River and championed other environmental causes, and enjoys spending time with his kids, ages 5 to 22. But now, with an administration that he says has made America “the most hated nation on Earth,” Kennedy might step up to the plate. “If Hillary left the Senate, I might run for that seat.”

btw, if you've never listened to RFK Jr's show on Air America Radio, Ring of Fire, you're really missing something ... check out the schedule here ... or, better yet, the Ring of Fire website here ...

1. That's great news!
Hillary has been doing a good job in NY, and I think she should stay there, but if she decides to run, Bobby Jr. would be a wonderful replacement.

14. Agreed! No one mentions CK, but she IS impressive. And more accomplished she becomes,
she speaks and "carries" herself with confident dignity and stature and no-nonsense "do-it" nature.

CK'd be an excellent candidate. Also she has that Kennedy charisma.

that he thought that was way out in the future for him, he had other things he was doing now. so I hope to see him join the Senate with his uncle.

10. Hillary shouldstay with NY and Robert, Jr. should keep up his
very important work for the environment. He is one of the most intelligent and dedicated and eloquent voices for the environment.

Yeah, Hillary doesn't deserve to be NY's senator, RFK is a new york 4 life and he'd make a great Senator.

12. Wouldn't Spitzer have to find a replacement for Hillary?
If she won the WH? The best RFK could do is hope that Spitzer would pick him to replace Hillary. But if Spitzer picked someone else, like Nita Lowey, then we'd have us a nasty primary for Hillary's replacement in the next general election.

15. Hmm, I Hesitate To Continue The Tradition Of Legacy
or nepotism that the US has already indulged in and that gave us Dumya. That said, I must admit that RFK Jr. has paid his dues and has done a great job. I guess we shouldn't hold legacy against a person either.

16. Great not just for the environment but for the voting system.
He is up on the really crucial issues like nobody else. It would be a real gift to the country if he ran.

17. Is there any sign that Hillary will give up her Senate seat if she runs?
Of course she would if she won the Presidency, but I highly doubt she will make it through the primaries so I don't think there is much of a chance of Kennedy running for her seat as much as I would like to see it happen. Unless she would resign her seat in order to focus on her Presidential campaign which seems highly unlikely I just don't see too much of a chance of this happening.

18. RFK
Yeah, RFK would only run if Hillary won the Presidency. She won't concede her senate seat like that loser Dole and kerry didn't conced his seat either.
