1. assonance
Alliteration is consonants: Clinton Clicks with Cleveland!

The "Clinton in to Win" is assonance.

10. damn those latin and greeks
I'm thinking "son" for sound and "a" for one.

One sound?

That's my guess for the root of the word.

2. IBM had "in to win" as their slogan for OS/2. She wasn't thinking of
OS/2 when she said that, but I hope she does better than that.

8. Snicker. I haven't thought of OS/2 in YEARS.
Who would've thought OS/2 and Hillary have something in common?

11. She had better hope she doesn't suffer the fate of the last one to make that boast.
Matt Hasselbeck, quarterback of the Seahawks said, "We want the ball, and we are going to score!" to start the overtime of a playoff game. Next play, interception, game over.

12. Dissonance
(That's sarcasm y'all)

If not dissonance then at least disconnect with reality. (That's not, if anyone cares)

14. Sounds pretty hollow to me...
I guess it is better than "I am in to lose"...but just barely.

Picture yourself trying to put into words why you are running for what is called the most powerful position in the world....Explaining to the rest of us what is on your mind. Assuming, of course, you would want the job.

You could say something like....I would like to promote peace. Or I would like to unite America behind the ideals of our Constitution. Or I want to strengthen the US economy. Or I want to further US committment to human rights and the environment. Or I would like to make a difference. Or if you have a conservative bent you could say I want to balance the budget, protect American borders, promote security, etc. Or something!!!!

So why does it seem hollow to me that, faced with this opportunity, the words that come out are I am in it to WIN?

Sorry, but count me unimpressed.

15. Don't be silly

She isn't in the race to make the country a better place or anything like that.

It's all about Hillary and her personal ambition.

16. You're probably right....
....but I am struck by the difference between saying I am in it to win....and what Abraham Lincoln said....."I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong". Note to Hillary: Lincoln won the election, and he didn't have to kiss butt.

"I'm in it to win"

It made me cringe to hear a Democrat utter those words. She sounds more like an American Idol contestant than a presidential candidate.

18. I recall that some American Idol contestants....
....particularly the most painful to watch....said beforehand they were in it to win. I knew that phrase was something I had heard before! Gees, why didn't Lincoln on the Gettysburg battlefield just say "we are in it to win"? Why bother with all the other stuff?

22. If we're talking empty slogans, how about -
Edwards/Obama 2008: Bringing Sexy Back - to the White House.

or

Gore/Richardson 2008: A Team That Weighs Like America.
