Notice how the 'filibuster" has regained popularity since Repubs are in minority?

We all recall the "gang of 14" or whatever it was called, with equal number of Democratic and Republican moderates that was formed to prevent filibuster of Supreme Court judges. Although the group was formed to prevent "filibuster" of judges, it had the effect of preventing filibusters of any legislation. As I recall, Joe Lieberman, Mary Landrieu, Nelson of Nebraska, Pryor of Arkansas, were a few Democrats in the gang?

Now that the Repubs are in the minority, we have had a couple of filibuster threats already. First of all, Mitch McConnell and the Repubs were going to filibuster the "ethics" reform bill in the Senate. After looking at the poll numbers and the possible fallout from such a vote, they changed their mind and voted over-whelmingly for the reform. Now they are talking about "filibustering" the "non-binding" resolution of Congress that would express disagreement with Bush's escalation of troops in Iraq. Where is the "gang" now?

3. I hope the Democrats aren't too polite to mention

the late, great "nuclear option" of changing the rules to end the filibuster, thereby keeping the opposition quiet.

I sincerely hope they're not to polite to remind those assholes of every stinking thing they've done over the last 12 years to deny representation to all the people in this country by excluding Democrats from debate and from committee meetings.

I sincerely hope the atmosphere gets acrimonious enough with the now minority party that the worst of them go back to probating wills in Podunk now that they can no longer count on four day weekends in the Caribbean every week, courtesy of some multinational corporation.

When the "class of 94" is gone from Congress, then maybe civility and cooperation can return.

After all, his statesmanlike influence lent all kinds of gravitas to the "compromise," at least in the popular media. Now that the Republicans are getting all partisan and stuff, I'm sure that Mr. Lieberman will be all over them to hold them to their pledges of comity and accommodation with the will of the people. Right?
