Maine sets date for 2008 caucuses
The Democratic State Committee also voted to set the 2008 Presidential Preference Caucus date to February 10 2008. The Democratic National Committee had provided the State Democratic Party with a window of time during which we could caucus. Sunday, February 10th is the first Sunday during that window which maintains Maine’s favorable position in the process of selecting a Democratic nominee for President of the United States. In 2004, the Maine Caucus took place on February 8th.

Ben Dudley, Chairman of the Maine Democratic Party, commented on the date of Maine’s 2008 Caucus.

“The early February 10th date ensures that Mainers will have an important voice in selecting the Democratic nominee for President. Maine is a significant bellwether for national sentiment, so this caucus date will afford this state the opportunity to affect the outcome of the race for President early on.”

3. Actually, it's two days later
In 2004, Maine's caucus date was February 8.

5. It'll be interesting to see what states jump in early.
The earliest date for states other than the first four is February 5. Already California is looking to go earlier. And to think that the proposal to add two states up front was to eliminate "front-loading".

States get the incentive of additional delegates if they move later into April, May, and June. I'm very curious to see if that happens.
