"mission accomplished" --the REAL story (at least, according to a freeper)
okay, I figured we all need a laugh today (I certainly do)

there was a discussion on another board I read about the "mission accomplished" nonsense of flight commander bunnypants. THIS was the explanation given by one of our resident trolls:

"the ship and crew were finished with their mission and right outside their home port

mission accomplished and coming home

did you forget already or havent you reread the dem spin machine logs"

this, quite frankly, is a new one on me--has anybody else heard this particular spin, and, if so, when did it start?

thank you all in advance.

1. sure. So Chimpy does that for all returning ships?
And his on board speech was all about...what?
Who had that banner made?
Just more right wing bullshit coverup.

2. But it is not in accordance with the facts.
Scott McClellen admitted that the White House designed and paid for the banner. Why would Bush's campaign strategists do something for the benefit of the troops, rather than something for the benefit of Bush's reelection appeal, which is their job?

3. Started in the White House.
Until it was pointed out that the graphics and typeface on the banner were exactly the same as every backdrop ever used by the Bush WH.\

That's right - they tried to blame the troops. Nice, innit?

4. Even if that was the case
it was played out as "Mission Accomplished" on the grand scale. Bush said in that speech that major combat operation in Iraq were completed.

The freepers can try to rewrite history to suit their current perceptions of reality but it doesn't change the fact that "Mission Accomplshed" with chucklenuts in his flight suit was PR taken to the max.

7. Don't forget he could have made it to the ship on a chopper...
In fact, they were so close to shore that they turned the ship around so that only open seas were shown in the shot.

Oh yeah - and they also kept the ship out of port for an additional day (for the photoshoot) so the servicemen and their families had to wait even longer to be reunited.

Heckuva job, Bushit.

8. The USS Lincoln's home port is Everett, Washington
They were off the coast of California when this happened and the crew had to spend extra days at sea to put on this dog and pony show of lies for the lying deserter.

No way were they "right outside their home port". Complete bs.

9. The 70mm color film of bush on that flight deck is superb, worthy of
Leni Riefenstahl.

10. Not according to Bob Woodward
He writes about that in State of Denial and according to him at least it was pure chimpaganda. Planned and organized by the bush (league) team.
