Rightwing Racist Rag NY Post: "NM Governor throws Sombrero into Ring"

http://www.nypost.com/seven/01222007/news/nationalnews/n_m__gov_throws_sombrero_into_ring_nationalnews_.htm

January 22, 2007 -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson took the first step yesterday toward an expected White House run in 2008 as he seeks to become the first Hispanic president.

Richardson said he believes the U.S. is ready for either a female, black or Hispanic chief executive.

"But I wouldn't run as a Hispanic candidate. I would run as an American, proud to be Hispanic, proud of my heritage," he said in an interview.

What disgusting RACIST pigs.

3. Headers like that are what the Post does. It's all in good fun.
A friend of mine works in a psych ward where he met a former Daily News editor in for rehab. The guy told him a story that sums up the Post. Some mob bigwig was arrested; the Daily News Headline read "So and So Arrested", the Post read "There Goes The Neighborhood!" The Post is quasi-tabloid journalism at its finest. I like Richardson, he needs things like this to grab peoples attention.

And the Post really isn't that conservative. They back Bloomberg's gun grabbing escapades and endorsed Hillary for NY Senator in 2006.

5. The Post "isn't that conservative"? WTF??
On what planet are you getting the Post? They're the biggest bootlickers for * east of the Mississippi. And this ain't exactly "Headless Body Found in Topless Bar" kitsch for a headline....it's racist. Perhaps you would have enjoyed if they put a picture of Speedy Gonzales or the Frito Bandito next to the headline?

8. Dave Chappelle, you're not
That's painfully clear. And making excuses for a rightwing piece of shit tabloid that barely hides its racism is truly sad.

4. Maybe it's because he's from New Mexico?
Sombreros and Mexican culture are a huge part of New Mexico. I'm not a big fan of the NY Post at all, but I don't know if I would attribute this to racism on their part.

....

BTW, Kudos to Media Matters for mentioning this!!

NY Post headline on Richardson's presidential plans: "N.M. Gov Throws Sombrero Into Ring."
A January 22 Associated Press article reporting on New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson's (D) decision to form an exploratory committee to run for president in 2008 appeared in the New York Post under the headline: "N.M. Gov Throws Sombrero Into Ring." By contrast, the AP ran the following "N.M. governor enters White House race."

Richardson, whose mother was Mexican, is seeking to become the nation's first Hispanic president.

As Media Matters for America recently noted, a January 17 Manchester, New Hampshire, Union Leader editorial commenting on Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) decision to form a presidential exploratory committee carried the headline: "If Obama runs: Will he get affirmative action."

9. It certainly is cheapskate stereotyping bigotry
which doesn't surprise too much coming from the NYP. But racism? Nah. They're equal opportunity asshats.

Dumbass par for the course, and a perfect illustration of the world class provincials that adore the types of Rush, Bush and Nuge.
