"Conservative Values" versus "San Francisco Values":

:bounce: WE are WINNING! :bounce:

"Conservative Values" versus "San Francisco Values":

ABC News/Washington Post Poll. Jan. 16-19, 2007. Adults nationwide. MoE ± 3.

Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president?

Approve 33
Disapprove 65

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Nancy Pelosi is handling her job as speaker of the House?

Approve 54
Disapprove 25

The pollsters helpfully compare the failed Pelosi speakership with Newt Gingrich's successful kick-ass revolutionary one (approve/disapprove):

12/20/94 (as incoming speakers): 35/43
1/4/95: 35/37
1/29/95: 40/48
3/5/95: 38/51

And so it went. Newt's best showing was in May and July of 1998, when he scored equal 41/44 ratings.

And here's a silly story (in hindsight) from election day on the dreaded --- San Fran Values...->

THREE DIRTY WORDS: SAN FRANCISCO VALUES
Joe Garofoli, Chronicle Staff Writer
Friday, November 3, 2006

If the Democrats win the House on Tuesday, expect the descriptor -- epithet, really -- "San Francisco values" to become a permanent part of the media conversation.

"If (House Minority Leader) Nancy Pelosi becomes speaker of the House, it will be on the Republicans' list of top five talking points every week," said longtime GOP media strategist and UC Berkeley political science instructor Dan Schnur.

Who's waiting until next week? The phrase is already resonating in conservative corners of the blogosphere, MySpace, right-leaning media outlets and even on newspaper editorial pages. It's a sign of how new media strategies can frame the debate quicker than in past elections. Especially the conservative parts of it.

Over the space of a few days, the phrase "San Francisco values" has passed from the lips of conservative FOX News commentator Bill O'Reilly and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich onto the editorial pages of the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle, where the paper endorsed a Republican congressional candidate because a Democratic House would mean "Pelosi will be speaker and her far-left San Francisco values -- gay marriage, cutting and running from Iraq, coddling terrorists, raising taxes, amnesty for illegals -- will become the House agenda."

2. Hey, I'll take San Francisco Values anytime. Lots of happy, gay people (pun acknowledged);
a vibrant economy, tourism numbers fat and rising, and all that.

Let's compare that to, say Midland, Texas, and see which one more people say is a desirable place to visit or to live in.
