One Graphic To Give Republicans Heartburn
For those of you who still maintain healthy relationships with Republicans and want to throw a good-natured jab in their direction, I have the prefect graphic for you. This is from a CBS News poll released yesterday and it compares George W. Bush's latest, dismal approval rating with those of a couple of other presidents at the same time in their terms.

Ouch!

Now, I'm sure that given the fondness most right-wingers have for Bill Clinton, this won't bother them much -- not even the reality that, after all they tried to do to him, Clinton had a much higher approval rating than did their patron saint, Ronald Reagan, after seven years in office.

This must be a reflection of those horrible times during "the Clinton years" that delusional Republicans like to talk about.

You can read more from Bob at BobGeiger.com.

1. That 28 percent not only approves, they worship Bush.
They may give lip service to "sainthood" for Reagan, but they worship Bush. Some literally. Just check out the FReepers. He could rape a parakeet on national TV and they would criticize the "liberal media" for any disapproval. His approval will never, ever go below 25%. Rush, Hannity, Fox News will see to it, assuring that their weak-minded sycophants are kept in line.

4. I'm sorry to say you are not exaggerating. It's a mindset.

Al Franken interviewed this guy Jeff Sharlet earlier this week. One of his most harrowing points during the interview, and that he mentions in this article, is that there are high placed military, who have been in powerful positions for a long time before this administration, and they are committed to removing the separation of church and state. War is part of their essential beliefs.

8. Wow. That's powerful. Has that article been posted?
I think it should be, and thanks for sharing. Every DUer should read the article. There are aspects I would take issue with, but it's a provocative and thoughtful piece. And the conclusion is clearly correct: Fundamentalism is writing us out of history. Harper's is the very best magazine out there; my subscription lapsed this fall, but you remind me that I must re-subscribe (I would ask them for a percentage, if I were you).

7. Leftie says it isn't a matter of running the country by polls, but
a matter of doing what is best for the U.S. Sometimes you are fortunate enough to have the polls in agreement with what you think is best for the U.S. and sometimes you're not that fortunate, but as long as a course of action actually IS good for U.S. that's what we've hired certain people to implement. Our problem is that we've hired a bunch of people who can't tell the difference between magical thinking, read that "faith", and reality. They can recognize only that which supports them and theirs, not the rest of us.

9. Let's hope they have to revise that chart soon.
The minimum on that chart is 25% and not zero, let's hope they have to lower it soon.

5. 28% is right down there with Nixon at the height of the Watergate stuff.
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 04:35 PM by SeattleVet
Nixon was at around 27%. He got down to 24% in August, just before he resigned.

Dubya, you're doing a HECK of a job, and you're *almost* there!
