the average American spent on their first house".

Who the hell did I just see that from (MSNBC)?

Barnicle?

Jeez...

Give it up, asshole.

She can afford fine clothes. And - alas, poor Pickles - she looks great in them.

She exhibited more depth and texture in what she was wearing (while sitting above the fool) than the fool did in his bullshit speech.

2. Nobody complained about Laura's Christmas dresses
And pitched a fit when DUers did - because we knew the media would do it if the situation were reversed. And here we are.

When will Democrats get it.

12. This is one of the many ways I know that we are still such a looong way
from equality in this sexist of all sexist "free" countries. Someone just had to comment on the speaker's clothes. Another first for this night. I will bet any amount of money that this is the very first time anyone ever spoke about the garment that a speaker of the house wore to the SOTU address.

Sexist. Completely. Like the Republican media really gives a fuck about equality of income, let alone gender or race. Hypocrites.

14. What a load of crap!
My parents had their first home built in 1952 for under $25,000., My husband's and my first home in 1975 cost $32,000.
Whoever said that is an idiot...or a Republic, which encompasses both.

15. Oh, Brother!
I somehow doubt her suit cost anywhere in the neighborhood of $50Gs. (That being a low estimate of a first house/condo in the USA) It looked like a several year old St. John -- which runs about $500 bucks. Through in shirt, shoes and hose and we're talking *maybe* $800. I can't find a house for that. Wish I could. Besides, Stephen Hawking does physics, not math and not fashion.

17. I think that was a tucker carlson blog line. What a pissant.
Like cheney or bush went to the the second-hand store for theirs? Or laura or lynne?

I think, however, she was a little too muted. I would have worn electric blue, green, or purple. Something eye-catching to distract a little from bush. BLUE would have been best - the color of Democrats.

18. I spose they yapped about Jackie Kennedy's clothes, too.
Note: I have seen Madame Speaker Pelosi wear that suit before. I thought that was a good thing when I saw her in it tonight. Nice touch, I thought. Wear a great suit that you've worn before.

What is it? Chanel?

23. gee, where were these voices--
--when Libby Dole was out campaigning for her hubby in 96? She also had the most magnificent suits.

Pelosi looked great -- I liked her choice of color (pale green), such a refreshing change in a veritable sea of dark suits and power ties. It showed that she is independent and confident.

Just pulling a number out of my ass, thinking that's the absolute most expensive a day to day suit could be.

And I want that house, damn it!

But that was in 1950. And the "house" was basically a converted garage.
