‘Inconvenient Truth’ filmmakers credit Gore’s story with film’s success

The makers of the documentary An Inconvenient Truth said it was the compelling personal story of Al Gore that turned the complex subject of global warming into a film garnering two Oscar nominations and box office tallies of $45 million.
On Tuesday, the documentary received Academy Award nominations for best documentary feature and achievement in music written for motion pictures for “I Need to Wake Up” by Melissa Etheridge. Although Gore isn’t technically a part of these nominations, the former vice president can take partial credit for the latter because he personally convinced Etheridge to write a song for the project, said producer Lawrence Bender. “He was the force behind that song,” Bender said.
“It is so rewarding to see Al Gore’s incredible work over three decades being recognized in this way,” said Laurie David, one of the film’s producers. “Al Gore is our current Paul Revere and the Academy acknowledging him is wonderful for the issues of global warming.”
