1) A populist, rather than elitist view on economics. No more "free trade", enough with globalization and the whole "pro-business" meme. We need to be a people's party that fights for the excluded majority.
2) A defense policy that defends the country but doesn't go LOOKING for wars. There is no excuse for any Democratic presidential candidate to even consider backing a war with Iran or be hesitant about getting out of Iraq A.S.A.P.. The people know there's no reason for us to get into or stay in Middle East wars. The politicians need to catch up.
3) A real commitment to mass voter registration, mass GOTV, electoral transparency and electoral reform. Anyone we nominate needs to fight for to make our party more electable by registering more voters, giving those voters enthusiastic reasons to get out and vote(this means no more saying "they have nowhere else to go" to poor people, union voters and progressive activists)and to building a genuinely democratic electoral system(including direct presidential elections, proportional representation for all elections, and real campaign finance reform).
4) A tax policy based on the dictum "from those to whom much is given, much is expected". We need to return the nation to progressive taxation. If we had that, we would have no budget deficits and the nation's social, educational and infrastructure needs would be met. Simple as that.
No Democrat who won't support the above should even be seeking the Democratic nomination.
