Who do you think Ted Kennedy will endorse in the primaries?

John Kerry was his favorite choice, but now that Kerry has taken himself out of the running, who will Kennedy throw his support behind? Any guesses?

3. Senator Kennedy will be 75 years old on Feb. 22nd.

Watching some Senate coverage the other day, when Senators were entering the chamber and walking to their seats, I was shocked to see him walking in a very slow way, not quite limping, but in a very stiff way as though suffering from bad knees/arthritis/etc. It suddenly struck me that for all his great vitality and energy as an orator, he is suffering the inevitable frailties of age.

4. Contrary to the image your post is portraying, I thought he looked better

the other day on TV than he has in quite a few years. Maybe we just saw him in different lighting or something. I didn't see him walking or anything, though.

That's what I've regularly seen/heard him do. It was the walking that shocked me - but the reminder of his back problems explains that. It would have been nice, considering the decades he has worked for the country's well being, if he could be retired and taking life easy now. But god knows we need him more than ever and I'm glad he has the energy and will to continue.

7. He's walked like that since he was a young man!

I saw him ..up close and personal..back in the 70's. He was walking in a parade in the Berkshires. He has that same back problem that his brother Jack had. Plus ,he is way overweight, and I know what that does to my 68 yr old body!! It could be possible that he'll support his old friend Chris Dodd. If not him, my second guess would be Obama (Kerry too)!!

9. I drove Uncle Teddy around in Madison in 2004...

The guy is big. A huge head. Barrel-chested. A big laugh and some pipes on his voice. His odometer is pretty high too. But he paces himself pretty well.

I think the fact that he laughs a lot helps his health...and he's been through a lot.

12. I think he'll wait a while

I would guess he'd likely back Gore if he decides to run (I know I shouldn't but I still have some hope he'll get in).

Otherwise, I think he may back Hillary or Dodd. I think he gets along well with her, even though their politics are somewhat different. He has made positive statements about her in the past. Dodd is a fellow northeast senator and they've known each other for a long time. Then again, hell, so is Biden. Dodd's a good guy, but I often forget he's even running.

Maybe with so many senate colleagues running, he'll refuse to endorse...or wait until it's almost obvious who is getting the nomination.

13. Good question. I listened to Kennedy speak to Kerry after Kerry's

withdrawal announcement on the Senate floor. Harry Reid followed Ted.

Can't say who gets Kennedy's endorsement. I keep thinking of Iowa then Nevada then New Hampshire within what -- a week of each other? -- and wonder if Kennedy will wait to see who emerges as a frontrunner after those 3 states' caucus/primaries.

He might be able to leverage his concern for national health care if he dangles it in front of a nominee who needs a late-season boost to a primary campaign.
