How long did the RW push the "Clintons trashed the White House" lie in 2001?
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 08:31 AM by blm
It seems to me it was about 8-9 months. Up until 9-11, at least.

Anyone have a better recollection of the timeline on that?

And I'm curious why such a superior communications team like the Clintons have ended up having so much difficulty in knocking that story down.

4. Nobody in the media or the WH wanted to.
It was a "good" story.

5. Compliticity of the media
in 2001 bush came into power illegally after Florida's rigged election and the SCOTUS'
actions that stopped the counting of the vote ...... Rove and company live by
"distract and attack" and they needed a distraction and the Clinton worked very well
thank you.

7. Then if that happened to Clintons because they couldn't control the media spin
against them, why do Gore and Kerry get heaped with so much scorn for not being able to cut through the media lies against them?

Clintons couldn't, and they had all the access to media in the worlds - far more than Gore or Kerry had. And Bush and Rove were at the HEIGHT of their power and influence over the media by the time Kerry became the nominee.

Yet Dem powers have convinced many that the swifts and Kerry were an aberration

(except it didn't stop him from winning - McAuliffe not securing the election process stopped Kerry from winning),

and that it would never happen to a Clinton - yet it did, even when Bush had LESS control over the media in early 2001 when they lied about Clinton, than he had in 2004 when they lied about Kerry.

9. "They" had as much control in 2000 as 2004.
How come this wasn't headline news across the country?

"DELAND, Fla., Nov. 11 - Something very strange happened on election night to Deborah Tannenbaum,
a Democratic Party official in Volusia County. At 10 p.m., she called the county elections department
and learned that Al Gore was leading George W. Bush 83,000 votes to 62,000. But when she checked the
county's Web site for an update half an hour later, she found a startling development: Gore's count had
dropped by 16,000 votes, while an obscure Socialist candidate had picked up 10,000--all because of a
single precinct with only 600 voters."
- Washington Post Sunday , November 12, 2000 ; Page A22

Dana Millbank of the Post went so far as to repeat the Diebold produced lie that this was due
to "a faulty memory card." Somebody should have asked Dana when was the last time you
went to an ATM and took out $60.00 and the bank added $200.00 to your account.

12. Heh.... the newsmedia was horrendous then and even more blatant AFTER 9-11
when they made no pretense at even being objective. Katrina blew alot of their category 5 spin back at them and their WH masters.

6. You have it about right.
Although the GSA was called in, in mid 2001, to assess the condition of offices, furnishings, etc.,and they pronounced there being no real damage, merely normal, expected wear and tear after eight years of continuous occupation, the damage to the Clintons and others was done.

A favorite tactic of the criminal cabal is the big lie, where they use their megaphone to proclaim a huge falsehood and then no amount of quiet correcting the record will clear up the crap completely.
(Also a favorite tactic of media)

There are still large numbers of wingies, especially those who call cspin, who were just conscious enough to hear the limbaugh lie but not conscious enough to find out the truth.

10. Maybe if you post it another thousand times, people will start believing they did
trash the White House. Seriously, blm, what is your point? We all know by now how much you hate the Clintons and consider them traitors to the Democratic Party, so why do you keep bringing this up? Is it to see how many times you can get "RW" in the same subject line with "the Clintons"? Make them guilty by repetitive association? What is it with this? The only person who ever seems to care about this trashing the White House thing is you.

All you really care about is trashing the Clintons, period.

13. That Rove lied about Clintons and the media made sure it stuck? I side with Clintons on that.
The point is that ANY Dem can get smeared and have it stick in a media climate hostile to Dems.

Why is it OK to pretend that it only happened to Gore and Kerry because of their campaigns?

How did Clintons and their topnotch team fare on the Rove lie that they trashed the WH?

Why don't you ANSWER the question instead of feigning outrage that the story itself is in the news again? I have always said that it was a Rove lie - the difference is that I don't scold Hillary BECAUSE a lie stuck in the media - but Hillary and YOU scolded Kerry for a Rove lie that you WANTED to stick.

And then you blame him because he had no control over the media's promotion of the swiftlies even as the Clintons had no control over the trashed WH lie.

It's YOUR double standard and that of Team Clinton that I am pointing to.

I'm not the person who on one hand is trashing the Clintons relentlessly over the same things day after day post after post thread after thread....and then on the other hand, making like you're siding with them on some dormant issue like this one, so as to make us think you're being fair about your judgment of the Clintons. lol

15. I trash their REAL LIFE decisions and policies that HURT this country. I have YEARS of

defending the clintons on this and other boards. Try doing a search of those earlier years - it wasn't until I finally read Clinton's book, was horrified at his bolstering of BOTH Bushes throughout 2001-2005, and heard the stories about McAuliffe's neglect of the DNC and Carville's blabbing strategy to Matalin at the WH - THEN I woke up and realized how badly they harmed this country.

Gee - you think that closing the books for Poppy Bush would be a problem for anyone wanting BushInc exposed for the last two decades, or who defended the Clintons for so many years, or supported Kerry and the Dem party so loyally for all those years?

Why don't you answer about the media takedown of the Clintons that followed their exit from the WH? Did the media get their spin in against the Clintons or not? And how long did it last without an effective counter from Team Clinton?
