MoveOn: "Political malpractice" for Democrats not to confront Bush on Iraq
Bloomberg News: MoveOn, Showing New Muscle in Washington, Challenges Democrats
By Laura Litvan and Nicholas Johnston

Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- MoveOn.org's 3.3 million members are friends to Democrats during election seasons. Now that the party controls Congress, some of its lawmakers are facing the group's wrath.

MoveOn, one of the first Internet-centered political groups, was founded eight years ago by two Silicon Valley entrepreneurs who wanted the Congress to ``move on'' past then-President Bill Clinton's impeachment. The group helped elect dozens of Democrats last year as it rose to become the second-biggest political action committee, raising $27.3 million.

Now MoveOn and other groups opposed to the Iraq war are pressing the Democrats, who are split over whether to curb funds for it and when to withdraw troops, to confront President George W. Bush.

"It is political malpractice for the Democrats not to work to stop the president,'' said Tom Matzzie, Washington director for MoveOn. His group's members will participate in an anti-war march on Washington this weekend, and then fan out on Capitol Hill Jan. 29 to lobby lawmakers to force Bush to withdraw from Iraq.

The group is also pressuring Democratic lawmakers on pocketbook issues. Eli Pariser, its executive director, will serve on the board of a new group, Working for Us PAC, that says it will donate to 2008 primary challengers to Democrats who don't embrace their economic agenda....

1. Political Malpractice, Sell Out ...
However you want to describe the Congress' actions so far on the Iraqi war. It appears, so far, there is no "New Direction" and it looks like there is not going to be one.

Non-binding resolutions are only political cover and don't save our soldiers from being massacred in Iraq. 65 of our soldiers have been killed since the 110th Congress has been in control with no end in sight.

If the 2008 Iraq supplemental is approved in a few weeks, we will be in Iraq until after the 2008 elections. That is nothing more than "stay the course" and we could lose another 1,000+ US soldiers in this disastrous war.

It is time for Congress to do what they promised and get our soldiers out of Iraq NOW! Enough politics, our soldiers are dying everyday the Congress does nothing.
