Cloned food should be labeled, senator says
Mikulski of Maryland to introduce bill today

By Diedtra Henderson, Globe Staff | January 26, 2007

WASHINGTON --A Maryland senator says she will introduce a bill today to require labeling
of food from cloned animals and their offspring.

The bill proposed by Senator Barbara A. Mikulski, Democrat of Maryland, would require
labels that say: "This product is from a cloned animal or its progeny." They would be
placed on milk, meat, cheese and other food derived from the animals. Distributors would
be required to include the labels on food sold in retail supermarkets and restaurants;
violators would face civil penalties.

-snip-

"I am strongly opposed to the FDA approving meat and milk products from cloned animals
for human consumption," Mikulski said in a statement. "If cloned food is safe, let it onto
the market, but give consumers the information they need to avoid these products if they
choose to."

4. I don't disagree with it, but is there a real threat?
I sincerely hope that there is no threat from cloned animals providing nutrition. It would be a great step in solving the food problem.

This is a no-brainer. I agree with no_hypocrisy about labeling GM foods as well. I want the opportunity to avoid this crap like the plague. (pun semi-intended)

Edit to add: recommended!
