It went GREAT! I am so excited. We had five people attend, which is not too shabby for the beginning stages of anything. Three of us were Democratic Party precinct chairs, one good Dem activist, and one person who is brand-new and just getting into politics. I gave out the recent articles about Al, which were fun to have a think about. Everyone took a petition, and is going to get some signatures at work and various places. We had lots of good ideas about other meetups we could attend to get sigs.
We also had a very good discussion about global warming. I gave out the "Ten Things You Can Do" handout from the climatechange.org website. Everyone shared the changes they have already made in their lifestyles, and the changes that they are thinking about making. It was a very involved, committed, politically active group, which was fun. One member has a connection with the Sierra Club; they have a very good short presentation, only 20 minutes, called "Cool Cities" which is good for giving to groups and neighborhood associations, so we are all going to try and get our neighborhood associations to have it at their meetings. We talked about buying local, and how important it is, and we are going to look into either having our next Meetup at the Farmer's Market, so we can do our grocery shopping afterwards (combined trip!) or even have a food-coop to go with the meetup! Everyone really enjoyed the meeting and felt it was fun and productive.
Anyhoo, regardless of your primary candidate or cause, hope you're getting out there too. Always makes me feel better about the future to meet up with people in the flesh who are busy and working to make the world a better place. :D
