A Clark adviser says the '04 candidate is "leaning towards setting up an exploratory then taking some time to explore." Clark accepted an invitation to speak at next weekend's DNC winter meeting in DC, along with the rest of the Democratic field. In addition, a major Democratic donor said that Clark has begun to make telephone calls to party donors."

He is doing this at a time it might hurt some others! Others might wonder wonder why he does this to some even when he chooses not to attend union events! He certainly must not care about the workers.

It's sad, so dad.

38. Me. too.
I recommended it.

Of course no one except Tom Rinaldo answered a very fair question. The rest of you thought if you made enough fun of me, laughed enough at me, called me names enough....that it would make me feel better about your guy.

Things don't work that way. It has been over 3 years now that you guys have made me a bad person...made fun, laughed.

And I don't give a sh**. If you don't think it's important that your guy cancelled a union event...then that's pretty bad. But it gave another excuse to make fun of madfloridian who doesn't give a sh**.

So keep it up. People notice.

I'd like to be able to support a candidate whole-heartedly, not just because they are the least objectionable of the bunch. Hillary, Biden, Vilsack -- meh. Obama, Edwards, Richardson -- well, maybe. But if Clark gets in, I'll support him enthusiastically.

Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 06:59 AM by 48percenter
Because I thought Clark was NOT going to enter the race, I seriously considered supporting Obama, but I like the fact that Clark is not DLC, and is 'outside the beltway.'

If he runs, I will support his candidacy again. At least that way, I can maintain a good conscience. :hi:

41. Very interesting comment in that kos thread
I am a registered republican and have voted straight republican since Reagan in 1984.

The "Iraq War" has driven a silent wedge between the GOP and the serving military voter. They are completely blind to it and when you try talking to them about, denial is the word....

For some insane reason my "fellow republicans" think that I should be all smiles at getting a third chance to return to Iraq this year and maybe even a fourth chance in 2008.

I was happy to go the first time. Second time was "OK." Third time will not be happy camper time.

Assuming this stay the course continues, in 2008 the serving military voter will abandon the GOP in droves. That does not mean however we will vote democrat because frankly there is that trust issue and well trust takes time. BUT you can take to the bank that we will not vote GOP. It is disgusting they see nothing wrong that the same people keep going back to do the dirty work.

44. We really could use Clark's voice in the primaries.
I will likely support him again if he does indeed run, since I feel more confident in his understanding of major foreign policy issues, like Iran, than the other current front runners. This time let's hope he focuses his campaign more on Iowa, which is probably the number one reason his campaign didn't go beyond winning in Oklahoma and some second place finishes in other states.

45. I think if Clark can win either Iowa or Nevada
And come in second in the other, he'll ge looking good going into NH and all the many primaries that will follow that first week of February.

Of the first four contests, his most natural base of support is NV. But because of last time, he doesn't have the option of skipping Iowa -- he probably never really did, but for sure doesn't this time. And if he runs in Iowa, he has to do well or he'll be written off before he gets started.

I don't think Clark needs to win NH, but of course he will have to do well. Given how he was doing there last time until Kerry won Iowa, I don't think it'll be that hard for Clark to recapture his support in NH if he goes in with at least one win in his pocket.

46. I caucused in Iowa in '04. Clark just needed the organization in Iowa.
I think that would've put him neck-and-neck with Kerry and Edwards. People were definitely interested in Clark at the caucus I attended, there just weren't enough of us there who knew much about him, whereas Kerry and Edwards had large support groups with some very persuasive and knowledgeable people among them. I think he could also pick up lots of delegates during the final round of voting (Democratic caucus voting explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_caucus#Democratic_Party_process) from weakly supported or inviable candidates.

48. I think he's got a great shot at winning it
The big money candidates will have an advantage with organization, but money ain't everything. Look at how much Dean went thru in Iowa last time, and all the good it did him.

What I've never really understood was how Edwards picked up so many of the Kucinich caucus-goers. I'm sure it had a lot to do with projected him to 2nd place. Very smart move, and perhaps one we can learn from.

I'm from Kansas, but I plan to be up in Iowa trying to help out this summer. :)

47. Go Clark or Draft KERRY and GORE if Clark doesn't run.
The choices so far are really slim-pickings. (Ok..so the 3 'serious' contenders leave lots to be desired.)
