The cost of Impeachment.
How many more US soldier lives will it cost us versus directly addressing the Iraq war through binding resolution and/or defunding?

How long will it take the House to draw up articles of impeachment?

What are the chances of the Senate voting for impeachment?

Who would be the next President if Shrub was impeached?

Let's get the Congress to address the most pressing and important issues, ending the Iraqi war and getting our soldiers out of Iraq.

1. Impeachment should be on the table.
President Bush needs to know you don't have a free pass as President to lie, mislead, and continuously move in the wrong direction at your own will and full knowing.

I say no.

24. IMPEACHMENT may actually be the ONLY way remaining to save their
lives. And stop this war that he almost completely alone wants to escalate. And bring them all HOME, SAFELY!!!

I think it's looking more and more like we're going to HAVE to IMPEACH this bastard and remove him from office - to save the lives of our soldiers. Otherwise, he's just gonna sentence more and more and more of them to an early, unnecessary death.

2. Some say IMPEACHMENT is the only way to end the deaths in Iraq.
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 09:54 PM by ClassWarrior
I'm not sure which is correct. But I do know that unless we come down hard against this misadministration**, we'll leave the door open for fascism. And Iraq truly will be a just a comma.

5. That is factually not true.
The Congress can pass a binding resolution ending the Iraq war and/or defund the 2008 Iraq supplemental in a few weeks. There would be sufficient funds to withdraw our soldiers safely.

Think about the time impeachment would take and then we just end up with Chainy!

Talk about a waste of our soldier's lives!

8. The Congress Can
But it won't, at least not a binding resolution, something with teeth. Hell, even John Warner would rather have body bags then to embarrass the Chimp!!!!

The Democrats have the people on their side, and they need to take advantage of that. The more time they spend worrying about hurting Chimpy's feelings, the more flag draped coffins will be returning
home.

Maybe if Pelosi gave an interview and let slip that Impeachment is back on the table, and that it was something that needed to be looked at, Bush might start to feel like his back is in a corner.

As long as he knows that he will never be held accountable for his actions, he will continue to send men and women to die for nothing more then his own egotistical needs!!!

13. Nah, Shrub knows that ...
it would take "forever", the Senate would not vote to impeach and, even if they did, we would still end up with Chainy!

A total waste of time and more importantly, another 1,000 US soldier lives.

Impeachment, at this time, is not a viable solution to the Iraqi war.

...WOULDN'T indict Cheney** too? What web sites have you been hanging around?

And why by the way are you so eager to shift some of that blood from Bush/Cheney**'s hands to the hands of those who want to hold them accountable? Hmmmm?...

22. Try saving our soldier's lives first ...
How long would it take?

There isn't a snow ball's chance in hell that both would be impeached at the same time and even less of a chance that the Senate would convict. Coffee?

Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 01:29 AM by ClassWarrior
Why are you so eager to shift the blame from them to anyone who'd hold them responsible? And why do you want people think we can't save our soldiers' lives AND hold them responsible at the same time? Hmmmm?...

11. Let the investigations begin and we'll see where it goes...
Congress can legislate while it investigates. And frankly, it's Congress' constitutional duty to impeach Bush for the many impeachable offenses. After all, is the President above the law? Is the President a King? Certainly, the Vice President has committed impeachable offenses as well.

As more Republicans look in shock as their leader continues to ignore advice and go further into an illegal war, it very well could be a majority needed to impeach Bush.

14. I don't understand this ...
We would end up with Chainy anyway and at the cost of maybe a 1,000 more US soldiers killed in Iraq.

What is more important at this time?

17. Don't worry. Cheney is complicit with impeachable offenses...and besides...
...do you think keeping them in is going to change any matter in the course of the war?

Cheney has already said that he will not listen to critics.

Bush has already proven he won't listen to critics.

So we should keep them in power so that they...um...keep doing what they are doing now? For the soldiers?

You better understand that. It's pretty damn obvious.

If you think we shouldn't try to remove them from power for their impeachable offenses so that they will somehow change their mind, then you need to do some homework.

Bush is not going to stop the war...nor is Cheney. 3,000 or more soldiers will die if they stay in office for the next two years. If they are removed, we have a chance at stopping the madness.

And besides, it is the Congress' DUTY to impeach them for their crimes.

Otherwise, let's get rid of Congress and declare them a plutocratic, royal, monarchical sovereignty that is above the law of the land and permit them to commit unconstitutional acts at their half-cocked, idiotic, impractical, irrational, irresponsible, maniacal, preposterous, psychopathic, psychotic, rabid, raging will.

There...I said it.

binding Congressional resolution ending the Iraqi war and/or defund the war this coming February via the 2008 Iraq supplemental.

Impeachment will do essentially nothing to stop the slaughter of our soldiers in Iraq.

Impeachment, then criminal charges in an American court of law. If we do not act, as soon as his second term is over, Bush will high-tail it to his new digs in Paraguay and we'll never see him again.

34. I agree with one caveat: Bush AND Cheney- impeach and trial
The Libby investigation will hopefully open the door to impeach both Bush and Cheney, and then they should be tried...

The question is really how many trials! Valerie Plame, lying to get us to invade Iraq, Guantanamo, illegal spying on citizens, maybe vote tampering, maybe something with Jeff Gannon and other paid journalists... the possibilities are mind numbing.

We need to stop the idea of an imperial "unilateral" President once and for all. That's why I think we need to impeach and take them to trial. We need to draw a line in the sand and say a President can't go beyond this.

Is there any reason why we need a secret Government, for that matter, other than to track what the other spies are doing? Even then, couldn't it have congressional oversight? Why should any government agency be allowed to do anything secretive anywhere in the world without another branch of government acting as a check and balance? Otherwise, as Bill Moyers pointed out, they just act above the law. Then we need to take the power out of the megacorporations.

29. I am not shifting anything ...
I use to believe in what people said and told us ...

--- Speaking in San Francisco the day after adjournment of the Republican-controlled 2005-06 Congress, Pelosi declared -- as she had throughout her party's successful November election campaign -- that "my highest priority, immediately, is to stop the war in Iraq."

25. Perhaps you'd understand his analogy better
Both Bush and Cheney are drunken train drivers. We are their passengers.

They have derailed the train numerous times already. We have put the train back on the tracks. They are still operating the train.

So what do we do to alleviate the problem of the next derailment?

You suggest we keep them in the driver's seat because we can't afford to change drivers and stop the next derailment. I suggest that we take them off the train and put someone else in who won't drive the train off the track.

30. I understand your sentiment, but...
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 12:51 PM by zulchzulu
...look what Congress has been able to do so far with trying to get Bush to listen...

The major point of impeachment proceedings would be to show Bush that Congress is an equal power of government, which he apparently does not understand or care to recognize. Bush's recent gaffe that he's the "decision maker" proves that he thinks he is the one with the final say on matters, such as the wars he started and more that he plans on doing.

He must be stopped in his tracks (back to the train analogy)...it's a runaway train with he and Cheney in power.

31. Binding resolutions and defunding the Iraqi War ...
Sean Penn today ... he got it right ...

"Sean Penn called for lobbying activities in Congress and more rallies locally to demand passing a binding resolution against the war and for a cut off in funds -- and vowed to target anyone in next year's races who did not back this strong step. This presumably included Democrats."
