2. Well, it's cute as a button, isn't it?
And those 2 are snappy dressers, as well.

6. I think he was the first Democrat to announce for the presidency
but the media pretends that he is mute.

"We didn't hear anybody from Alaska say anything."

I'm not for or against Gravel. I don't know that much about him. But he deserves coverage if he's announcing for the White House. He was a U.S. Senator a while back, I think.

7. Didn't he have something to do with the release of the "Pentagon Papers"
Which helped bring the Vietnam "Conflict" to an end? :shrug:

8. Toots, I'm embarrassed to say I have no idea. I'll do a little
googling later on to learn more about the man.

I've been as guilty as the media in passing him over.

Next time we cross paths, I hope I have learned a bit more about him.

After the NYT published portions, Nixon blocked further publication.
Gravel read over 4,000 pages into the Senate record.

Here's his platform for 2008:

Commence an immediate and orderly withdrawal from Iraq;
Raze Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib prisons to the ground;
Stop Congress from raiding the Social Security Trust Fund;
Initiate a Universal Single Payer Healthcare Plan;
Abolish the Federal Income Tax & IRS, replacing them with the "Fair Tax" (a national sales tax);
End the war against America's veterans; and
Ask the American people to enact The National Initiative for Democracy so that you can decide on our agenda and all of the issues that affect your lives.

on edit, re: the draft:

"In 1971, he waged a successful one-man filibuster for five months that forced the Nixon administration to cut a deal, effectively ending the draft in the United States."
