Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 02:46 PM by Nimrod2005
She is doing a very good job talking to people. Unless someone says these are prescripted questions, she is awesome on her feet.

Clearly she is way smart and knows the issues.

No flaming, she is not my first choice, but she makes me proud.

1. It is an invitation only event
so yes, I'm sure the questions are scripted to a point.

2. is it?
I heard that there was overflow in the dining room... It doesn't seem like this was a very handpicked crowd...

5. It's not invitation only
Tickets were available on her Web site. Unlike Bush, our candidates can walk and chew gum at the same time (i.e., answer extemporaneous questions).

10. You may be right
it's the Cedar Rapids event that is supposed to invite only, but that's supposed to be at 4:30 so this must not be it.

11. I think that's a lot smaller
so invitation-only would make more sense. :hi:

3. Me too
I'm watching it on my computer (no access to TV now). BTW, I'm very proud of Obama and Edwards, too, who could certainly kick ass in town-hall formats. Imagine Bush trying it, lol.

BTW, Hillary and Obama lead McCain and Giuliani in new Newsweek poll! Yes, it's early, but still ...

...not my first choice either, but I would be comfortable voting for her.

And you never know, it's a year until the primaries, she could become my first choice.

cheers

8. The 'Deal with it' is needlessly antagonistic ....
While I agree eith your statement about her strength, you are helping make this forum MORE adversarial by your confrontational manner ....

Instead of "Deal with it DU, I am watching Hillary in IA - SHE SI VERY STRONG!"

Why not "I am watching Hillary in IA - SHE SI VERY STRONG!" ? ....

15. I believe he said that because so many people on DU have said
so many NASTY/DEROGATORY/UNFAIR things about her in many past posts.

I asked if people here in a previous post if they liked her. I couldn't believe so many people liked Hillary. I think people were actually scared to post something good for fear of being flamed. I know I was!

14. They all tend to be strong early on. It's the faster pace of competitive races
and after countless news interviews and statement releases and utter exhaustion that sets induring competitive races. TeamClinton didn't want her to have to go through that testing, so they put out the money rule - no donors can contribute to other candidates - just like GWBush did in 1999.

And I mean that as a compliment. She connects with people. We could do a lot worse than electing Hillary in 2008.

18. Two things....don't say "deal with it". Don't pre-empt peace marches.
I think the "inevitability of the juggernaut" theme is going to keep a lot of people discouraged.

Note I said nothing about Hillary, just about "tactics".

blm just said something about her funding rule that should be noticed.

The Iraq war changed the dynamics of our party. Some don't realize that yet. Inevitability is not a permanent thing in our party. Things are in flux.

21. What a demagogue, to hide behind her gender!
Hillary telling people that the issue is whether a woman can become President wins the Bullshit Award for the Month! The issue is not whether a woman, or a man of colour, can become President but whether this particular woman should win the Democratic nomination.

31. Many of my lesbian friends are crazy about Hillary running, BUT...
they are totally ignorant about Hillary's stand on the critical issues facing us. For example, they don't know about Hillary's lukewarm support for LGBT rights, she is still "evolving" on marriage rights. They don't know about Hillary's rubbing elbows with the Right-to-Life wackos that want to take our reproductive rights away. They don't know about Hillary's prowar stance, not only on Iraq, but on Syria and Iran as well (she supports regime change).

When I was a child I was very excited about women running for President, Margaret Chase Smith and Shirley Chisholm come particularly to mind. But I am long past puberty now, and I want for President the best man or woman candidate that can extricate us from Iraq and from the straitjacket we created for ourselves in the Middle East. Hillary is NOT that candidate.

32. I can't help but worry...
I can't help but worry that the apparent front runner for the Democrats is Hillary. It worries me because the Republican Spin machine goes to bed each night praying and praying:

Please, please let Hillary Clinton be the Democratic candidate for President.
Please, please let Hillary Clinton be the Democratic candidate for President.
Please, please let Hillary Clinton be the Democratic candidate for President.
Amen.

33. She would be a great first U.S. female President.
I will be happy to vote for her should she win the nomination.

And I see no reason why not to play the gender card to get the attention of women who have not seriously considered voting for her.
