We constantly sigh and ask if only

the proud were more humble
the humble more proud

the silent were louder
the louder more silent

the dignified more scrappy
the scrappy more dignified

the richer were poorer
the poorer were richer

If Mother Theresa were a Democrat, we would say, "What, only four lepers today? Why not five?"

How about if we try to humanize the idealism just a tiny bit and realize we are all imperfect beings in an imperfect world?

3. You are speaking words of wisdom, Phoebe.
Seems as if folks are becoming ever more contentious these days. Saves me time as I "change the channel" when I see how posts are going. Who wants to sit and read all of the carping, flaming, and fighting that goes on. Very boring.Waste of time.

Who is this "DU" you speak of?
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 06:48 PM by Mojambo
I'm always hearing about how DU thinks this and DU always does that.

This DU person sure is an unreasonable ass!

5. Good point! I don't pretend to represent the views of DU as a whole
only what I see happening on particular days when a "group think" or feeding frenzy takes over the entire board for thread after thread . I know that I have been guilty of it as well. You can only correct what you can identify.

6. And all those darn Oaks blocking out our sunshine!
Well said.

Some of us play on the schoolyard and don't give a flying rat's ass if Janie's shoes are worn and her socks have holes. It only matters to those who think they are too good and don't want to be seen with her. Likewise there are the bullies who choose to wear their misfortune on their sleeves and wouldn't be caught dead talking to the sweet little lonely girl sitting under the tree because she lives in that hoity-toity house on the hill.

To hell with all the parents that taught such values... or lack thereof.

8. I agree that happens but disagree that it is "DU". This is a large
community and just because some people get upset and post a lot on something, it doesn't equate to "DU". Many people just avoid certain flame wars.

10. We are not parents but employers - looking for best prospective employee
There's an issue of responsibility that your metaphor leaves out. We are not a family, but a democracy. We have a responsibility to make a good choice, the elected reps in turn have a responsibility to represent us properly.
I am never disappointed in my actual progeny, but resent being patronized here.

12. The "in" crowd
DU does appear to be pretty 7th grade at times. Cliques rule, outsiders are suspect.
SAME AS IT EVER WAS.

16. Just like Goldilocks
it seems nothing is ever quite good enough.

In the words of George Carlin, "To people that say, 'my needs aren't being met,' I say 'drop some of your needs.' Life is a zero sum game."

17. I hope Democrats don't think of their representatives as children,
childish, or immature.

I hope it's ok to expect Democratic reps and candidates to be intelligent, to act with integrity, and to keep their priorities straight.
