1. Yes...curiously Kerry's endorsement of Webb...
Hard to imagine now, but there was alot of consternation over Webb's candidacy early last year. Alot of talk whether he was a real Democrat, and especially over some comments Webb made regarding the Swiftboating of Kerry in 2004 where Webb appeared to excuse it...

I voted for Webb in the primary, but only at t he time because I thought he would have the best chance of bloodying up Allen, not because I was particularly enthusiastic about him...

However, when Kerry endorsed him, and came to support him, that carried alot of weight with me. The fact that person slimed by the swift boat attacks was endorsing someone that had appeared to excuse those attacks clinched it.

Of course Kerry was right and I have come to be a whohearted supporter and fan of Webb's!!!

2. They can have. Sometimes a NEGATIVE weight.
I will never, for example, forgive the incumbent Democratic Senators who betrayed their party in the fall of 2006 by endorsing Joe Lieberman's right-wing independent candidacy over the candidacy of the actual and legitimate Democratic nominee, Joe Lieberman. Sorry guys, the fact that you think that the netroots and ordinary grass-roots activists have no right to have a say in the party does not give you the right to campaign AGAINST Democratic candidates.

Those who backed Lieberman are morally indistinguishable from the creators of Democrats for Nixon.

3. In deciding which Congressional candidates to donate to...
...getting an email from a politician I respect asking me to donate can have an effect.

I don't recall any cases of my vote being affected, though.

5. Sometimes ...
It depends on the politician ... I would be persuaded to consider Jimmy Carter's point of view, Ted Kennedy would have my attention ... and a few others.

Though I supported John Kerry, I don't know how much (doubtful any) influence gis opinion would have on me
