I was watching CNN as Clark was about to come out and speak, and, instead of airing Gert's introduction, the 4-5 pundits (Brown, Blitzer, Woodruff, Greenfield,???) were all sitting there railing on Clark's campaign and the total impossibility of his getting the nomination.

Greenfield even had the balls to say that Clark's message "wasn't resonating with the voters." Criminy!, the voters didn't get a chance to *hear* Clark's message, let alone reject it.

He was up there for all the debates. He was campaigning for months in NH; he had at least two big name supporters who raised his profile. His campaign just never got enough support to catch fire; can't blame the media for that, he had enough money to show ads. More people were just worried about his political inexperience.

I loved pretty much everything that I heard from Clark; he just never distinguished himself from the pack, IMHO.

...for some time but in light of current developments it might be more appropriate to have him serve as the National Security Adviser. Of course, I think that the Presidential candidate should have the freedom of choice to name whomever he wants. Clark would make a good SecDef, but may not be the man the candidate has in mind. I would want to have him around to meet the tough challenges ahead. You just know there are going to be some major game playing, trumped up incidents, dirty tricks et al, emerging from the national security establishment during the coming Democratic administration to undercut the new administrations domestic priorities.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a feeling he may have been offered some kind of spot by someone else. He's got money and could stay in the race longer, but Clark will do what is best for the party and the country, and since Kerry's whopping rise from a relative political basement, another spot at this point seems to be best... Clark's no quitter... me thinks there has to be a bigger reason for his dropping out now when he really doesn't have to. Sure, I'm disappointed as hell... I wanted Clark to be my president sooooooo bad... but Clark is a guy who will make a sacrifice for what's looking like what's best for us all. Actually, I kind of had the feeling his run this time around was more of a test drive considering the late entry. I still feel that there will come a day in the future that I can proudly call him my president.

I admit I think I'm more disappointed because this was a candidate that I had a personal (though distant) connection to with my dad having known and really respected him. And in that, I also have to admit that in a strange way, I'm somewhat relieved. I haven't posted a thing for at least a week or two because this is something I've been thinking about a LOT lately, and it was often niggling at the back of my mind since he entered the race. The next Dem presidential candidate is going to be thrashed by the GOP with the help of the media like no other. If we can get that Bush Bastard out of office, our guy is going to still have an incredibly rough time considering the barren wasteland those squatting shits in office have reduced the country to. The GOP isn't going to go quietly, and they'll bring out the big guns on our guy the likes of which we've never seen in the hope of worming their way back to where they have no business being... I just could not have borne what the Mean Machine would have done to Clark as the nominee or as president... the years of Clinton's penis facination will look like child's play next to what they'll do to our next guy.

I always had the feeling that Clark was a bit ahead of his time... perhaps this run was more about a preview of better things to come. With the incredible damage BushCo has done to the country, I still see the next 4 to 8 years being more about damage control and getting started back in the right direction. Maybe I'm not saying what I'm feeling quite right, but in an odd way, I just feel like we aren't quite ready for Clark yet... and maybe it's better to sit on a secret weapon for a little while longer to be used later to it's best effect. I kind of think of Clark like the crowning glory of dessert (and for someone with a sweet-tooth like me, dessert is the best part of the meal)... no matter how badly you want it NOW, it's better to wait and savor it after the regular meat and potatos that's pretty much just stomach lining anyway and is forgotten about immediately after consumption.

As a side note, I don't regret a single cent I gave to the Clark campaign or any of the time I spent working on his behalf... I would gladly spend it and do it all again just for the GOP to get a glimpse of a Dem to be REALLY afraid of tramping out in the front line and in step with loads of other great Dems that are going to mow down the Repukes... GOP: get out of the way or get run over 'cause we're coming on, and we're coming on stronger, harder and meaner then you've ever God-damned dreamed of...

I think his withdrawal now is a good move. I think Kerry offered him SecState yesterday (Clark's ineligible for SecDef since he hasn't been out of the military long enough), and I totally agree that if he had won the nomination and especially the election the Rovian shitstorm would have made Clinton's travails look like a summer shower.

Kerry fights as dirty as they do. Let him take the heat while Wes mends our fences and restores our prestige abroad.

He will be a part of the next Democratic administration...I feel he has received overtures from Kerry and Edwards recently and is considering those now.

He isn't gone! He didn't die, he is very much alive physically and politically, so give him time to decide what's best for him. The patriot that he is, he will make his decision based on what is best for his country and his party. We will see him again very very very soon.

I would be ecstatic if a Kerry/Clark or Edwards/Clark ticket emerges. He would be a tremendously effective VP, and really, when you think about it, that is NOT a loss for us!!

Unfortunately, like Dean, honesty is not a quality the media looks for in the Democratic nominee, so the brainwashing goes against that quality.
