1. It's either a Democrat or four more years of Bush (essentially). (nt)

3. You got that right
Anyone who votes 3rd party on principle is a fool. Sorry, but that's the truth. You can't effectively elect a repuke and still claim to have principles. I'm sure our childrens' generation thanks you very much for your stand.

12. And who were the fools that voted for Lieberman?
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 01:01 AM by countmyvote4real
The bell told for Dems in 2006.

If they don't get a handle on our problems in the next two years, I am not compelled to follow the party line. It's the best man/woman and progressive policies for the job.

2008 will determine if the much needed third party is viable. Either the Dems will correct their corporate, centrist course (Rep Lite) or they don't. I won't go there with them again. They are on their on. Like they left me.

13. The U.S. will never support a 3+ party system
The yokels like to have ones and zeros, yes and no, true false, candidate A or B. Throw another choice in the mix and their heads explode. The Lieberman voters (as much as it makes me throw up a little in my mouth to say it) helped ensure we got the chairmanships. Plain and simple.

16. You are half right.
I concede that Merika cannot handle choice if it involves critical thinking. On that you are probably right.

I disagree that Lieberman’s win in the general election tipped the Dem’s hand. Lamont would have won it over the lame Republican challenger. In that case, we would have a real progressive Democrat instead of a neocon Republican in sheep’s Independent Democrat clothing.

27. That's not true.
I live in a state where, if certain candidates get the nomination, there's no way it will be close. It will be the Republican in a landslide. My piddly one vote isn't going to elect a Democrat OR a Republican. I can vote my conscious if I feel the Dem in question isn't up to snuff or I can choose to vote Democratic and have it not matter anyway.

29. I agree!
Living in Hawaii, my vote means zilch.

If I don't like the candidate, I can stay home & the Dem will still win.

I don't like being told WHO to vote for.

5. Let's just make this clear - neither Lieberman, nor Zell will be the nominee.
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 12:39 AM by Pirate Smile
There is always somebody who posts that on these threads.

Let's stay reality based, no, "what if they nominated Strom Thurmond before he switched to become a Republican in 1964, blah, blah, blah".

8. I am a Democrat and I will support and vote for Democratic candidates.
That is a simple and pragmatic attitude. A vote not cast for the Democratic candidate is a de facto vote for the Republican candidate. The next President of the United States will either be a Democrat or a Republican, put money on that. The reason we now have Bush is because of the thousands who decided to throw away their vote on Nader in 2000 and it is my belief that they also have blood on their hands.

9. I heap scorn, derision and anger on the head of Nader as well, but
I think the bush cabal executed a coup and would have stolen power even without the complicity of Mr. Nader.

We need to keep the right wing out of power in every way possible. I don't see the Republicans nominating a liberal anytime soon.

The Democratic voters in Connecticut made it very clear last August that he's not welcome in the Democratic Party.

false -- New York always goes Democratic -- so my vote does not count -- like it would in swing state (such as Colorado).

Swing state
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_state

A swing state (also, battleground state) in United States presidential politics is a state in which no candidate has overwhelming support, meaning that any of the major candidates have a reasonable chance of winning the state's electoral college votes. Such states are targets of both major political parties in presidential elections, since winning these states is the best opportunity for a party to gain votes. Non-swing states are sometimes called safe states, because one candidate has strong enough support, that they can safely assume they will win the state's votes.
