OH Poll: Hillary leads McCain and Guiliani...Obama by 25...
Quinnipic Poll

January 30, 2007 - Clinton Inches Ahead Of Giuliani, McCain In Ohio, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; But She Has Higher Negative Ratings
Sen. Hillary Clinton holds a three-to-one lead over any Democrat and has a razor-thin lead over leading Republican presidential candidates in the key state of Ohio, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

In general election matchups, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds:

* Sen. Clinton squeaks by Arizona Sen. John McCain 46 - 42 percent;
* Clinton inches by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani 46 - 43 percent;
* Clinton tops former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 52 - 31 percent;
* McCain edges Illinois Sen. Barack Obama 41 - 38 percent;
* Former Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards edges McCain 44 - 41 percent.

Giuliani leads McCain 30 - 22 percent among Ohio Republicans. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gets 11 percent and Romney gets 4 percent.

Among Ohio Democrats, 38 percent pick Clinton, followed by 13 percent for Obama, 11 percent for Edwards and 6 percent for former Vice President Al Gore.

18. No. The Hawk can use her corporate money to spread her name.
I fail to understand why Hilary is getting this rabid support after her populist bs. Someone must be getting something out of it...I'm not. Why the heck would I want to shove it on any more DUers than necessary.

Just make a poll asking 'Hillary' or 'Anyone but Hillary' if you don't believe me.

2. There were hints that Hillary was presidential material during her first run for the senate.
I remember a slew of Republicans demanding that she make a pledge to finish her first term and not run in 2004.

She's ready, and so is America.:toast:

Love her or hate her, she isn't going away anytime too soon. Whoever it is that gets the nod, I hope they have the same fight in them that she has in her.

39. I don't doubt that her negatives will go down, but her name recognition will be less useful
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 12:19 AM by Hippo_Tron
Every poly sci professor that I've talked to says that Hillary and McCain both have very inflated numbers because of name recognition. That being said, her negatives could also go down as well if her campaign is effective at re-defining her.

47. Well I think that is partially correct...
However, alot will depend on how she campaigns...

McCain's numbers are dropping now because he has hitched his wagon to the Bush escalation. Most people know Hillary, and most like what they see...as long as she can present that persona to the public in the face of Obama and Edwards, her numbers won't drop...people right now can see Hillary as President, she has to campaign in such a way so that feeling among Democrats does not go away...

If she runs a Lieberman like campaign...then she is doomed

34. Not even that, in my opinion
it's name recognition, nothing more - I agree that her numbers will go down, as will McCain's - there's a LOT of time left, and lots for them to justify.

7. Bottom line is Hillary equals more war.
She indicates that she is pro war over and over again. Hillary and Bill and their love affair with pappy Bush tells me that there will be no change in America if she gets into the White House. I think any rational person can see this. I think we should at least get the opportunity to run our primaries without the media choosing the candidate for us. Just saying! Peace on earth, kim

16. Her negatives are at 38%...
Hardly insurmountable...and likely to go down as upwards of 90% already know of her...

By contrast her opponents, particularly Obama are relatively unknown, and their negatives will inevitably creep upwards...

Spin it any way you like...Hillary right now is very credible not only to win the nomination, but also the general election...

Which is bad for Kucnich because he does not score as high in terms of name recognition. So basically the people that know him dislike him.

Hillary Says It's Time To Start Leaving Iraq
By Greg Sargent

Via Atrios, Hillary Clinton has told ABC News in an interview in Baghdad that it's time to start bringing the troops home. "Clinton said it is time to start re-deploying U.S. troops out of Iraq," ABC says, quoting her as follows: "That would really demonstrate to the Iraqis that we don't have an open-ended commitment," she said. "We are not going to be here providing protection for their leaders, which we do. We are not going to be here standing by and trying to be called in from time to time as they see fit. That is not in the cards." Clinton also noted that the level of security was much higher than her first visit two years ago; on this trip, ABC reports, she had to wear body armor and was surrounded by soldiers.

why is it vile that ONE Clinton has been associated with the presidency since you were born?

Hillary's presidency is only prospective, and regardless, you're talking about from the time you were born to the present.

So again, how is one Clinton in the white house "vile"?

Gore's unfavorables wer at 50% which is the highest I have seen them.

And Kucinich's unfavorables dominate his favorables by people that know him*granted he does not have the name recognition of Gore or Clinton). That is a very bad sign for him.

is that people aren't interested in any of the candidates right now. This presidential race is too far ahead for most people - plus, I think there is some sense of burnout and just a relief that these terrible 8 years are coming to an end - at this point, people just want Bush and Cheney out...Unfortunately, people don't seem to understand just yet that any republican president, will be more of the same old shit.

McCain, Clinton, and Giuliani all have relatively high numbers due to name recognition. The RW media is doing a nice smear job over Barack "Hussain Osama". It's disgusting and I think his charisma does frighten them, because the last thing they want is an inspiring, charismatic, black man with a chance at such an office. But even otherwise, Obama has other problems. I think there may be a fear to some in the primaries that he's all style and no substance...I think he's fully qualified, but even as one that likes him, he has not shown much political courage or taken any political risks.

It's very possible Clinton's negatives could go down if she proves to be as effective as she was in NY in transforming and redefining herself. Personally, I do not care for her. I don't believe she has taken principled stands on issues. I do not see any mass appeal either. I fear those same concerns could be the case with many - and unlike myself - could cause them to vote for someone like McCain.

Gore faces challenges as well. He's been out of the spotlight for sometime. He faces the challenge of being seen as well...stale. Now, personally I like Gore and would vote for him in a second for the nomination as well, because he speaks to me on most important issues. I also think he has the capability to move beyond '00 and speak about what's important today (though much of what he said in '00 is very relevant today). Either way, we don't even know if he's running.

As for Edwards, if people thought people on DU were harsh for criticizing him over the new home, just wait for the RW MSM press. They'll have a field day with it. Like Obama, he's a skilled speaker, but his platform of anti-poverty may be muddled and weakened. Now, I don't think his home purchase makes him less sincere, but there is a striking contrast nevertheless.

But it's not all bad. McCain's numbers are plummeting with his enthusiastic endorsement of this recent "surge". He's being seen as a phony and a panderer to the RR. Even Jon Stewart who seemed to love him earlier has taken shots at him. And there is no love for him among RWers. Giuliani may have great numbers now, but has a million skeletons, and seems mentally unstable. I think he'll go unhinged at some point. Plus, how will his previous views on abortion, gay rights, and gun control fly with the religiously insane base? Brownback is just insane. Romney is Mormon...Huckabee - that guy could be potentially problematic - a religious fanatic dressed as a moderate. He's one slick bastard.

Overall, no one really interests me this time. This isn't ABB. This is about a post-Bush America and world. And we need a truly different direction. Plus, with most candidates having lacked the foresight to oppose the war from the beginning - this race is just disappointing.
