I was distributing the local newspaper at Section 8 housing for the elderly. Monday is free paper day, and I offered one to one of the staff there, a young man, under 50 at a guess.

"Any good news today?" He asks this every time.

"Oh look!" he gloats. "Two hundred insurgents killed! I heard on the radio that the number has been increased to 400. That's what happens when you blow people up."

To which I replied: "That's what happens when you illegally invade someone's country and occupy it."

Which is when he made the lead-in remark.

(Later overheard him abusing Hillary and Barack, claiming both easily defeatable).

Consider the ramifications of this little exchange:

This post-Vietnam yahoo thinks that no people have a right to defend their country against invasion by the US, and that the US is perfectly justified to throw its weight around anywhere it likes.

Furthermore, to consider the legality of US actions is a non-starter. He just doesn't care about it.

The unexamined life truly isn't worth living....

2. Next time you talk to him, ask him about this.

The 400 people we killed were Saddam's followers, the Sunni's, who are the same faction as the Saudi's. The people that helped us kill them were Shiites, who are allied with Iran. Does he think it's good that we are killing the allies of our friends and helping Iran gain more influence in Iraq?
