What a firestorm that would set off if Hagel supports it and Hillary and Obama do not.

Why would you feel that Obama will oppose it? He voted against the war to begin with.

3. Does that mean he would vote to cut off funds now? |
|
Just because he was against it doesn't mean he would support cutting off funds now. Democrats are afraid right now of doing anything they could be criticized for later. I think it will be interesting to see just how many Senators (especially those running for Prez) will support this.
I'm just sayin'.....

For one thing, he is ultra-conservative.
For another, he has a clearer record of opposing the Iraq War than H. Clinton or Edwards.
Wouldn't it be a nightmare if Hagel got the nomination...and H. Clinton or Edwards got the Dem nomination...and the Republicans are running on Iraq as an issue against the Democrats!? Ufda! .
All this triangulation...all this worrying about what would be "safe"...it would be ironic if this "safety" wound up biting them in the butt.
And tragic too...since Hagel is soooo conservative.
This is the risk of nominating someone like H. Clinton or Edwards.
Overconfidence....hubris....beware.

Hagel is not a favorite for the Republicans but I have long said that he is the only one that should make the Democrats worry. All of those moderate Republican voters and Independents who helped us win back Congress in November would go for someone like Hagel.

6. If Hagel is the nominee then we can only hope ours is Obama, Clark |
|
Gore, or Richardson. Because despite all he has said recently, Hagel voted FOR the war. As long as we have someone who opposed it from the start, he cannot claim to have a clearer record of opposition to this war.
