1. RIP to one of the best. Remember her as we fight back.
She took no guff from anyone, and was never intimidated. I shall miss her wisdom, humor and maybe most of all her spine of steel. Are you listening, Dems? I hope she and Paul Wellstone can look out for us.

7. God sorely needs some good laughs, I suppose.
As heartbroken as I am about this, I'm glad she didn't try to carry on.

Rest well, darlin'. :patriot:

Molly you will be greatly missed. You offered your words and ideas to encourage many people to become active in the political climate here in this country. I watched for your articles and always found them to be of value to me. Thanks

10. To God;
She was so brilliant, so scathing.

There was still so much Bush left to bash.

The reward of a lifetime, to join the divine.
Thank you God, for giving her to us when she was so very needed.
Thank you God for the rewards bestowed in Heaven upon the truly righteous, those who have given voice to the meek, vision to the isolated, and hope to the despairing.

Thank you God, for giving us such a treasure, and know that she was yeilded back with unmeasurable reluctance.

Take care of our treasure.

20. On the other hand, she might have actually LOVED it. Clearly it is meant to be disrespectful,
but I almost think it's a great tribute. she never, ever shied away from that word and she probably would have had a great guffaw that she was such a bee in their behind as to merit such a notice.

It just pissed me off like they were trying to get a response from the viewers/readers like, "good." I'm just so sad that it inflamed me. But I like you're way of thinking about it the best.

at the very least she lived to see Congress taken back. Let us honor her memory with our deeds this year and make her proud.

27. Say it loud, Molly Ivins was a liberal and she was proud!
Molly Ivins never shied away from being called a liberal. It's an honor to be called a liberal, and who cares if the conservatives keep trying to turn that word into a negative label. Molly knew the power of words, and she knew she would never give up her own power in how she defined herself, that she would never let others define who she was and what she stood for. Texan women can be pretty damned strong that way.

Bless you, Molly, for speaking the truth, with intelligence, with humor, with grace. There will never, ever be another one like you.

31. She Was Here In Sarasota Right Before The 2004 Election & I
had the PRIVILEGE of having my picture taken with her. I have ALWAYS had such great respect for her, her intelligence and her humorous ways of "doing the digs!" She was one fantastic woman and a hell of a journalist!

She didn't look all that well even back then, and rumors were her cancer was back. But I must say I am shocked and America has lost a REAL AMERICAN! I grew up in her neck of the woods, only wish I had met her when I was much younger!

I still have VCR tapes of her and some are so very very funny, but at the same time had that "stick it to you quality!"

May I never forget you, and hope your soul will touch many many more!

43. Statement from The Texas Observer (obituary follows)
Published on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 by the Texas Observer

Molly Ivins, 1944-2007

Statement from The Texas Observer (obituary follows)

To Our Readers and Friends

Molly Ivins left her editor's chair at The Texas Observer more than 30 years ago and went on to play a larger stage. But she never left us behind. She remained convinced that Texas needed a progressive, independent voice to call the powerful to account and to stand up for the common folk. She kept our voice alive. More than once, when the paper was on the brink of insolvency, she delivered speeches and gave us the honorariums. She donated royalties from her best-selling book Shrub to keep the doors open. Her determination and efforts sustained the Observer as a magazine, as a family, and as a community.

Molly was a hero. She was a mentor. She was a liberal. She was a patriot. She was a friend. And she always will be. With Molly's death we have lost someone we hold dear. What she has left behind we will hold dearer still.

Despite her failing health, and an impending ice storm, Molly insisted on being driven to the Observer’s most recent public event in early January so she could thank our supporters.

Observer writers are useful, she explained to the crowd, in much the same way as good hunting dogs. Turn them loose, let them hunt. When they return with their prey, pat them on the head, say a few words of praise, and set them loose to hunt again.

For the time being, The Texas Observer's web site will be dedicated to remembering Molly, her work, her wit, her contributions to the political discourse of a nation. We invite readers to submit their own thoughts and recollections, to say a few words of praise.

Then, we will return to the hunt.
