I don't think it's been skewed away from other candidates and toward Kerry because of the media. Specifically, under-coverage of Clark, Edwards and Kucinich, and over-coverage of Dean's mere exuberance.

It's not in itself a bad thing. Look at Bush "promising to bring a new tone to Washington".
I think people want someone who will run the country competently and effect change in the direction they want but are willing to settle for less than 100% of that change.

It is the newest trend. You vote for the candidate you don't support. That way he gets way too vote-heavy to win the nomination. Also, he collects too many delegates to win.

Unless there is some Diebold conspiracy going on, it has obviously reflected the votes. People go... they vote... we find out what the results are. That's what happens. There's a lot of sour grapes and people absolutely aghast that their candidate is not winning, but the people are speaking and they are voting and everyone's vote is worth the same. Nothing wrong with that.

Plenty of people around here (most of whom, I assume, are not Kerry supporters) decry the unfairness of the primaries. How are they unfair? Because one guy didn't have all the money or the grassroots but since he got all these votes (what a stupid system!) he got votes?

As for the media - the media's job is not to promote all candidates equally. Yeah, I said it, it's not. The media's job is to report what is newsworthy, and if Kerry surges late in Iowa, it's newsworthy, just as it was newsworthy when Dean made his comment about Saddam Hussein. Momentum is a side effect, of course, but that's part of politics, and it was Howard Dean's mistake not to realize that momentum only lasts so long.
