Reverend: Don't Pimp My Church (dean?)
if you read the article you will see how CMB behaved at this church in contrast to dean, who the Reverend seems to feel, attempted to manipulate and misrepresent his wife, himself and his New Hampshire church in an effort to bolster dean's appeal to southern black voters.

article text:

Frustrated with Democratic presidential candidates who "pimp the church," the pastor of a black church in Portsmouth, N.H., has criticized those who would use his congregation as a backdrop for campaign photos rather than a serious discussion of issues.

"Come because you want to be here," the Rev. Arthur Hilson of New Hope Baptist Church said from the pulpit Sunday in an appeal to the candidates. "Don't come here because you want to use me or our people."

snip

Hilson noted that a photo taken during a visit by front-runner Howard Dean appeared in an issue of Newsweek. The photo showed Dean standing beside Ms. Hilson, but the caption did not indicate the picture was taken in New Hampshire, and it was used in a story about Dean seeking the Southern African-American vote.

"When the Dean people came they said, 'Can you be at the door and have your wife with you?'" Hilson said.

3. Come on, bitchkitty, I haven't seen this article before.

If you think it's a dupe, send an alert, but don't assume the poster knew it had been posted before. Nobody can keep up with the volume of posts anymore.

4. It's not only a dupe,
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 07:39 AM by bitchkitty
it's got the (dean?) in the subject. He knew damned well it had been posted before, he posted on the original thread. Like I said, recycled.

I think it's kind of funny that he can't come up with anything new and would repost such a non-issue.

5. the original was locked because of a rule infraction
i removed the infraction and reposted because it is a very relevant issue considering dean's declaration that he will focus on religion down south. here is a Reverend who is offering advice to dean and the other candidates about how to avoid backlash from people who view their churches as more than photo-ops.

9. Still, I never saw it before, and I'll bet many others missed it, too.

With the volume of posts AND the holidays, we're all missing out on news items.

Bearfart has explained why he reposted it, anyway. You don't like it because it shows your candidate in a bad light, and that's understandable.

Maybe this article with the comments from the minister will teach Dean something he needs to know: churchgoers can see through a candidate attending their church solely for a photo op. I can tell Dean something else: he has waited awfully late to bring up his love for Jesus and it won't fly with Christian voters in the South or Midwest. I think he'll make a big mistake if he tries dropping Jesus's name to win votes. I really don't like to see ANY candidate use religion.

7. In case you haven't noticed,
I don't post hatchet pieces. How do you think it looks - you post one flamebait thread, it gets locked for rules violations, which should tell you that it's unnecessarily inflammatory, you then repost and when the thread dies its natural death, your pal reposts the same damned thing? What is with you people?

Thank you for ruining my DU experience. It's been a few weeks now, and I've been hoping for change, but it doesn't look like you guys are going to let up. Everyone assures me that after the primaries it will be different, but the thing is, I don't think I can forgive some of you.

Go on with your mission, don't let common courtesy get in your way.

Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 08:14 AM by bearfartinthewoods
the original was NOT locked as flamebait but because the AP article was posted on a conservative site. this article is linked to YAHOO which has been an accepted source for news in the past.

i did not realize it had been reposted already. i am alerting.

13. Just because you don't post hatchet pieces. . .
. . .does not mean others don't. When you talk about "It's been a few weeks now, and I've been hoping for change, but it doesn't look like you guys are going to let up. Everyone assures me that after the primaries it will be different, but the thing is, I don't think I can forgive some of you." I hope you are also talking about those who bashe Clark, Kerry, Gephardt, etc. as well. I hope you will be as outraged with them.

14. Maybe you haven't noticed, but

many Dean supporters have not been courteous. I can remember many "He can't win, vote for Dean" and "Maybe he can be Dean's VP" posts to threads about my candidate, Dennis Kucinich. Such posts dated back to the spring. Early on, we were getting "Dean will win. Deal with it" posts and we've had rather constant gloating about Dean's success at fundraising and in the polls.
The whole "Resistance is futile, You will be assimilated" attitude has been annoying.

Just another viewpoint to consider. I'm sure there are many variations of opinion on who's the rudest, who started the rudeness. No one is blameless in this. Sorry it's ruining DU for you. ( I think I knew you at Smirking Chimp. long ago.)

16. they are on a mission
but I doubt they are getting many converts anymore. They have turned me completely away from even considering their candidate which I know is wrong of me. Sure, supporters of other candidates can be just as bad but the magnitude of these guys' "efforts" dwarfs the others. Just scroll down GD Primaries and read the subject lines any given day lately. Totally relentless. I used to think supporters of the "frontrunner" were a bit much, but not anymore by comparison. But, hey, this is politics I suppose, .....

17. Oh come on! Be a nice Kitty!
You know how the game is played. Everyone is jockeying for position with their candidate. So what if it is a slam against any contender? Do you think politics is pretty and neat?

Don't be a bitch-kitty. Go getcha some Little Friskies and jump on out there and get you some!

P.S. Go Clark!

15. The recycled Clark pieces are months old...
...this one is what? Three days old?

Still being published in newspapers right now.

Current.

Some Dean supporters do not know the difference in posting new information and rehashing the old because there is nothing new to discuss.

Dean has a terrible week or two in the news, it gets reported on DU, some of his supporters divert with old Clark stories.

Sad.

who had just endorsed Carol Mostly Fraud from the pulpit.

How do black churches get away with this?
