rumsfeld knew of the conditions at walter reed--mrs rumsfeld
"Last October, Joyce Rumsfeld, the wife of then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, was taken to Walter Reed by a friend concerned about outpatient treatment. She attended a weekly meeting, called Girls Time Out, at which wives, girlfriends and mothers of soldiers exchange stories and offer support."

"Rumsfeld asked one of the staff members whether she thought that the soldiers her husband was meeting on his visits had been handpicked to paint a rosy picture of their time there. The answer was yes."

"When Walter Reed officials found out that Rumsfeld had visited, they told the friend who brought her -- a woman who had volunteered there many times -- that she was no longer welcome on the grounds."

4. EVERYONE should be outraged
I haven't been so pissed at govt. inaction, foolishness, malevolence in .... years.
The administration, bush himself especially, go around crowing about 'support the troops...' while in fact they dump on our people just when they need competent help the most.

this is an absolute disgrace and Cheney and Bush should be held accountable....hearings, even criminal indictments are entirely appropriate.

5. Yep But VA treatment costs $
and W doesn't want to forego tax cuts for the rich. It's his priorities.

Not one Bush extended family serve in Iraq. Ottherwise, funding might be different.

6. NO KIDDING.
It's beyond a disgrace.

Man, if it were I - here's what I'd do. I'd announce on prime time TV that, effective immediately, ALL the upper echelon in the military, from colonel rank ON UP to the Defense Secretary AND every one of the Joint Chiefs, would have their offices relocated to rooms in Building 18. And the recouperating soldiers whose rooms they'd be taking would also be relocated, to THEIR just-vacated office suites in the Pentagon, complete with all the luxuries, UNTIL THIS WAS COMPLETELY CORRECTED, and corrected to the satisfaction of the Commander-in-Chief (presumably in this case, ME). Those same nice, big, comfy office suites would be refitted with all the medical and therapeutic wherewithal to accommodate this wholesale change of venue. The brass needs to know, FULL-ON, what the non-coms and junior-grades and others who were out there on the front lines taking it in the shorts for bush's "war on terr" have to live with, and live through.

And heads would start rolling for the chief of ops at Walter Reed and at the VA, and in the Pentagon. Where were the civilian inspectors? Where were the chaplains? Where were the soldiers' representatives? Where were their advocates? Did they not see the mold, the mice and their inevitable droppings, the dead cockroaches, the holes in the walls? Were they blind??? Or did they just sorta skirt the issue and just never find a way to work it into their busy schedules to keep an eye on this???

AMAZING. If this happened on a Democrat's watch...

7. Oh please
"I don't think anyone could have possibly anticipated that there would be wounded coming back from the invasion of Iraq. And as the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have informed us, getting shot up is really not all that big a deal. Some of those guys probably got hurt through their own carelessness by riding around in unarmored vehicles or not having proper body armor. We should spend money compensating these guys for their own clumsiness?"

Copy, paste, print out, and put it in a time capsule to be brought out in time for the Republican National Convention in 2020 or 2024, when some Iraqi war veteran is running for president on the Democratic ticket. You'll be astonished at my prescience!

3. The article doesn't say Mrs Rumsfeld told Mr Rumsfeld
and even if she had, people would cry spousal privilege. But I repeat, the article does not SAY that Rumsfeld learned of conditions at Walter Reed through his wife. And who's to say he'd even believe her (which would the constitute 'knowing' rather than 'being told')?
