1. I thought God hated Trent Lott.

The man would be a fool to rebuild there. His house was scraped off the face of the earth. Probably just about done now.

All Things Considered, May 12, 2006 · In many ways, Hurricane Katrina was an equal-opportunity disaster, destroying the homes of both rich and poor Gulf Coast residents. Among the most prominent victims was Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS), whose 19th-century seaside home in Pascagoula, Miss., was obliterated by the storm.

Now, Lott is one of thousands of Mississippi homeowners who are suing their insurance companies. They believe their claims for coverage were unfairly rejected -- and many say they now have no way to rebuild the homes they lost.

Looks like Trent is getting screwed by an insurance company. There is a tiny bit of justice.

Some Democrats are rich.

It's something that a lot of us "little people" forget. Possibly because we want to...

So I guess it's no surprise that Republicans have learned that reminding us makes us squirm.

I do find myself curious as to the cost per square foot on their homes vs. mine, or other homes in the same climatic zone.

I'd also love to know how the raw numbers compare to other houses of the same size.

The most cost-effective mansion probably has zoned heating and cooling, so that unused areas can be shut off.

But that doesn't help any of us who see a mansion itself as wasted space, and must acknowledge that those with more to spend often do consume more natural resources.

Are there any easy answers? I don't know.
