Okay everyone....payback time! Weigh in!
We have been run over rough-shod the last six years. Our protests have wound up in cages a mile away, our meetings had to take place in the basement, we have been wire-tapped, our mail opened, we were threatened with the dreaded nuclear option. The POTUS had to hand pick his audiences and media whores.
When we are in control of congress and the whitehouse, which of their precious legislations and dirty tricks can we use against the republicans like they did us?

3. we don't need any dirty tricks
we just need to enforce the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

And while we're at it, we could do a little investigating as to what has happened during the past six years. They've dug their own hole, this will bring them down.

4. Impeach Bush & Cheney (there's nothing "dirty" about fulfilling their oath)
Edited on Sun Mar-04-07 02:48 PM by pat_k
Every time Bush and Cheney invoke unitary authoritarian power they declare their intent to violate the Constitution. They've followed up that declaration by repeatedly, willfully, and publicly violating the Constitution. Before our eyes, they commit grave violations that go far beyond impeachable -- crimes that are subject to the penalty of death. Namely, violating the Anti-Terrorism Act (Title 18, Section 844 paragraph e. Bomb Threat -- "mushroom clouds in 45 min") and war crimes under U.S. Code (Title 18 section 2441) and international law.

Every violation is a challenge to Congress "We've just erased more of the Constitution. Stop us if you dare." They are banking that the Dems will run from that challenge. So far, it's paying off. Step-by-step, they are achieving their ends: an powerful executive.

Impeachment is the only "lethal" weapon in the Congressional arsenal capable of stopping these lawless and reckless men.

The Congressional oath is not an oath to win; it is an oath to fight -- to "support and defend."

The Congressional oath is not a collective oath; it is an individual oath. With accusations of grave violations "on the table" -- put there by elected bodies, good government organizations, local groups, and countless individual citizens -- each Member must choose:

Impeachment or Impotence

Duty or Complicity

Courage or Cowardice

6. Bush and Cheney are attacking the Constitution in plain sight.
Edited on Sun Mar-04-07 03:21 PM by pat_k
Investigations say "We don't have a case for impeachment; we're fishing." An incredibly counter-productive, self-imposed, lie.

Everything necessary to make at least five separate, compelling cases for impeachment is on the public record.Note

Staffers are more than capable of drafting a set of articles and pulling together everything necessary to make any one of the possible cases in an Impeachment Hearing. Bush and Cheney are attacking the Constitution on so many fronts that the House could vote out a new set of articles weekly. With each new set, they would be forcing Senators to choose: stick their own necks out to save the necks of War Criminals who have outraged the nation, or throw Bush and Cheney overboard via removal (and put Nancy Pelosi in the WH) or resignation (and put a Bush nominee that can pass both Houses in the WH).

Given the choices the Repubs must make, the surety with which so many Democrats predict acquittal in the Senate is simply not rational.

Whatever the outcome, Members of the House are duty-bound to act. There is no legitimate rationalization or excuse to delay impeachment proceedings even a day.

Our so-called leaders bear responsibility for the consequences of leaving the massive power of the American presidency in the hands of proven outlaws. Each day that a Member refuses to advocate impeachment adds to the tally of horrors.

============================================
Note: For example:
  1. ordering detainees in Guantanamo to be treated in ways they knew to be War Crimes (confirmed by the SCOTUS Hamdan ruling);
  2. abducting, secretly holding, and torturing people in CIA-run prisons overseas (confirmed by the EU TDIP investigation);
  3. abusing signing statements to declare their intent to violate our laws (just need a single example, such as the nullification of McCain's torture amendment, which passed the Senate with more than 90 votes);
  4. terrorizing the nation with "mushroom clouds over our cities in 45 minutes" (the most colossal bomb threat in our history); or
  5. violating FISA to spy on Americans (public statements from both Bush and Cheney confessing to this one).
If Members of the House can't bring themselves to confront the grim reality that America has become a War Criminal nation that spies on it's own citizens, they could simply impeach Bush and Cheney because they are incapable of defending the nation. Their consistent lies (or as their defenders term them, "mistakes") have made any "evidence" that comes from any agency run by their appointees suspect. Their entire administration is therefore incapable of effectively motivating national or international response to a threat.

10. I say zero out the White House budget...
All we have to do is allocate $600,000 - $400,000 for the President and $200,000 for the Veep to satisfy Constitutional requirements. Let them buy their own damned toner and paper and let them pay their own cell phone bills for the next 2 years. Put AF1 up for sale on eBay.
